And last but not least, thank you to the 8 members of the #coleg House Judiciary Committee who recognize that we need a public health response to the overdose crisis, & were unwilling to pass an ineffective, regressive bill that would take us in the wrong direction. 🙏#StopSB109

Both Wyoming & Utah, with large Republican supermajorities, rejected similar drug-induced homicide bills this year.
SB109 is bad policy, and @COHouseDem on #coleg Judiciary should #StopSB109 from advancing to the House floor.
SB23-109, the Drug-Induced Homicide bill, will go before the House Judiciary Committee this afternoon.
The committee received a letter signed by Colorado medical organizations & providers in opposition. "The public health community opposes this bill, & we urge you to vote no."

They are going to try to move this quick in the last few days of session. Our action toolkit is ready! Let's #StopSB109 ⚒️📷https://t.co/Ap8Cqq9joD
Drug Induced Homicide laws are ineffective & harmful. They also have a chilling effect on calls to 911 in event of an overdose.

Our friends at Colorado Drug Policy Coalition put together a ✨fact sheet✨ with all the reasons we should 🚫#StopSB109. 📄https://t.co/vlZzG90ITD
Can you help us get it in the hands of House Reps this week? 🧰https://t.co/Ap8Cqq8Lz5⚒️

Despite the heroic efforts of Senadora Gonzales, Senator Priola, and others who fought to #StopSB109 and save lives from overdose instead of punishing people with substance use disorders, the Senate passed it forward.
The work continues in the House!
SB23-109 is back on the Senate floor for debate right now. 🚫#StopSB109

"Simply put, there is no justice in shoveling punishment on top of people who are already half-buried. There is no justice in treating an unintentional overdose like murder."

Thank you for fighting so hard for evidence-based solutions to the overdose crisis, Senadora. We see you.
Colorado can't keep recycling the same failed policies that entrench poverty, exacerbate pain, and engender more fear and needless death in our communities. #StopSB109
It was a busy day today on the floor.
A bipartisan group of Colorado Senate leaders attempted to solve the impasse in a closed-door meeting, which would appear to violate the state's open meetings law.
The meeting quickly adjourned after @MGoodland questioned its legality.

DIH prosecutions tear families apart after they’ve already suffered an unthinkable loss.
If they actually worked, then maybe? But in 20 years, there has been no evidence that these punitive drug laws have any impact on demand, use, sales or supply of drugs. 🛑#StopSB109

SB23-109 goes to the Senate floor today, & we wanted to remind @CoSenDem that most Drug-Induced Homicide prosecutions are simply the friends & family of the victim, people who are also struggling w/substance use.
Let's choose to save lives, not destroy them.

SB23-109, Senators Mullica & Pelton's incredibly harmful drug-induced homicide bill, goes to the Senate floor today.
We hope @COSenDem are ready to LEAD with facts and not succumb to fear.

🗓️The #coleg Senate floor debate on SB23-109 is scheduled for tomorrow.
🤔Which legislators will look at the 20 year failed track record of drug-induced homicide legislation and choose to 💜save lives💜 from overdose instead?

SB23-109, a law that would set us back in our mission to end the overdose crisis, made it out of Senate Judiciary on a 3-2 vote.
Though we aren't surprised, we're still deeply disappointed. It now moves to the Senate floor for a vote.

🙏Thank you Senator Fenberg for taking a principled stance against SB23-109! Decades of drug-induced homicide laws have shown they are ineffective at decreasing drug use & trafficking, cause a great deal of harm, cost a lot of $$$, and prevent folks from calling 911.
