#Archive30 Day 2 – Favourite Item. #StoweCollections #HarrietBeecherStowe wrote a letter to Frederick Douglass, July 9, 1851, soliciting info for Uncle Tom’s Cabin. One of our favorite archival items because this letter tangibly connects two 19th-century anti-slavery powerhouses.

The statue below was gifted to Harriet Beecher Stowe, who said that it reminded her of Sojourner Truth, who she had met in the 1840s. Her article about their meeting, "Sojourner Truth, The Libyan Sibyl" would be published in 1863 by The Atlantic. #StoweCollections
On this day in 1851 the first two chapters of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" were published in the National Era, a small abolitionist newspaper. Harriet's publications more than doubled the subscribership of the paper over the course of 1 year. #stowecollections #wordsthatchangedtheworld
