A female of Stylops ovinae gives birth to thousands of primary larvae. The larvae are deposited on flowers and are carried by other host bees to the burrow where they infest their eggs or larvae.

Today, together with @KennyJandausch, I collected my over six hundredth male #Strepsiptera (#Stylops).
Stylopized Andrena have a denser hair coat on the abdomen than uninfested ones. In this study we were able to show that male #Stylops apply significantly higher forces on smooth surfaces. However, the forces on all hymenopterans were significantly lower. https://t.co/0j6qcMlYFs
This adorable (cleared) face was protruding from the abdomen of a planthopper (Javesella pellucida I think), caught in my garden last July. My first #Stylops I assume, a female. Am I right in thinking it can be identified as Elenchus maorianus based on its host being Delphacid?
