#SundayConversations Some people say I should stick to storytelling and humor. But when you see what I’ve seen online these past few years, silence feels dishonest. You see, freedom doesn’t always fall with a gunshot. Sometimes it fades beneath the shuffle of papers and the silence of consent. (Thread ↓) Some people wish I’d stay in my lane, you know, write, entertain, be funny. But I see things. Hear things. Things that trouble me enough to steal sleep. Maybe it’s an artist’s curse. Maybe it’s just my nature to gnaw a bone once I’ve found it. Either way, I’m going to start talking. Call me what you will. I’m not an apologist. I’m a conversationalist. I don’t want echo chambers; I want dialogue. So I’ll keep writing opinion pieces. Maybe Sundays, maybe more. The funny writer guy’s still here. But if you think all dissent is dangerous, these posts won’t be for you. People talk endlessly about tyranny in politics, yet few on the left seem to recognize the soft authoritarianism that thrived during the Dorsey years at Twitter. Shadow bans. Story suppression. The quiet excommunication of dissenters. The platform didn’t just moderate. It framed reality. Algorithms decided visibility. “Trust and Safety” teams decided truth. Users could be exiled not for threats or crime, but for deviation from what the company defined as “acceptable narrative.” We now know there was direct coordination with government agencies — the FBI, DHS, CDC, State Department — on content takedowns and “misinformation” flags. Many excused it because the censorship benefited their side (and isn’t it interesting what we can justify when that’s the metric). Others trusted the “experts,” or hid behind “It’s a private company.” But when a handful of executives can silence elected officials, throttle stories, and steer national narratives, that’s not moderation. It’s manipulation. Even Jack Dorsey admits his biggest mistake wasn’t moderation itself, but building something that let any single ideology own the world’s conversation. And we should admit something too: Authoritarianism doesn’t always wear a uniform. Sometimes it comes wrapped in code, policy, and the soothing language of safety.
