THE VERDICT: #Netflix’s first proper Telugu original series takes a massive, taboo-shattering swing at sex education and completely hits it out of the park. Directed by Mallik Ram (Tillu Square), Super Subbu transplants a Vicky Donor or Sex Education style premise into a deeply conservative, rustic Telangana village. It is loud, unapologetically farcical, and heavily entertaining, bridging authentic rural satire with surprisingly mature emotional beats.
THE VIBE!
Panchayat meets classic regional comedy slapstick. The series thrives on situational anxiety - putting a deeply repressed, awkward city guy in charge of teaching family planning and reproductive health to a hyper-masculine, stubborn village that thinks talking about condoms is an absolute crime.
THE HIGHLIGHTS ✨
▪️The Stiff Hero: #SundeepKishan as Subramanyam (Subbu) is wonderfully endearing. He plays the vulnerable, submissive son beautifully, constantly slouched and hunting for the approval of his strict father. His transition from an awkward teacher avoiding eye contact to a confident community guide is handled with genuine warmth.
▪️The Dictator Dad: #MuraliSharma as Kukkuteshwar Rao is pitch-perfect. Making his major streaming debut, his portrayal of a retired, deeply traditional schoolteacher who views sex education as "pure, unadulterated nonsense" provides the show its best dramatic tension.
▪️The Digital Dreamer: #MithilaPalkar as Swathi brings an absolute burst of fresh energy as an aspiring actress navigating the changing rural internet landscape. Her audition sequence and her poignant moments questioning a woman's lack of agency are standout scenes.
▪️The Rustic Satire: The setting of Makhipur is built brilliantly. From villagers climbing palm trees just to catch a sliver of phone signal to Subbu's classroom being an abandoned, dilapidated train bogie, the production design adds massive character to the show.
