The new president refused to meet with him, and the abusive legal proceedings are still ongoing: he still owes a staggering sum over "abandonment of post" in 2013, even though he had left Syria under threats to his life. While Damascus University is in dire need of qualified staff, and the new regime is appointing people with no academic competence or real experience to sensitive positions, Damascus University refused to reinstate one of its most senior professor-researchers, a man who has published dozens of works in his field and collaborated with numerous European universities... But understand this: my father is Druze, not Sunni Arab... He is also the one who translated into Arabic the book Assad's Syria, published in France in 1992, one of the first books to lift the veil on the extreme brutality of the Assad regime. We know the price of our commitment to the Syrian people. But that after Assad's fall, the harassment would continue — and that on top of it would come the massacre of our loved ones, the destruction of our home and our village, and all the hatred that comes with it because of our religious affiliation — that, we did not see coming. Young Alawite Woman Who Was Kidnapped and Released Shares Testimony About General Security Militia Involvement in Her Abduction A 25-year-old woman named “Hala Nawras Ibrahim,” from the Alawite community, gave testimony about the circumstances of her kidnapping and detention, along with her nine-month-old baby, at the hands of the #HTS-led General Security militias. Ms. Hala Nawras Ibrahim was reportedly kidnapped on May 17, 2025, together with her son Ali Youssef Khuzami, from underneath the Hamimim Bridge near Jableh. Hala Ibrahim: “General Security kidnapped me and my child from under the Hamimim Bridge in Jableh. They assaulted me several times before cutting my body with razor blades.” Hala: “When they sent me back to my family, they had shaved my head and cut my body with razor blades all over, trying to force me to sign a marriage contract with a General Security member.” Hala: “I heard other girls screaming in the place where they were holding me.” Hala: “They told my family to delete all the posts about the kidnapping once I was sent back after my family paid a ransom.” ----- It's worth nothing that multiple testimonies from other released kidnapping victims reportedly point to two men, Haitham Abbas “a.k.a. Salah”, who commands General Security militias in Jableh, and someone known as Hakim al-Diri, who commands General Security militias in Latakia province, as being involved in kidnapping women across Latakia province, covering for the kidnappers, and threatening victims’ families.

In a rally, chants of Eid takbirs were heard while marchers moved through Bab Touma. What is alarming is that similar scenes were reported in Alawite neighborhoods in Latakia and Jableh yesterday and today. The world must open its eyes to the reality of Syria. Behind the headlines claiming that things are moving in the right direction lies the daily reality faced by Syrians.
