@gaganghotra_ @sejournal @gfiorelli1 @martinibuster @darth_na This is something I actually warned #TheGoogle about some years back, while I was still in the "Product Expert" program.
But they assured m it wasn't a problem and pointed at my NDA with a raised eyebrow.
I'd write a book if I thought anyone would believe me...
Back in 2015 #TheGoogle flew me all the way from Houston to Dublin at the last minute, because their legal team was losing its mind about the #EU implementing #GDPR and what an abject shitstorm it would cause with its users.
I was considered to be "consumer-facing" at the time, so I got dragged into it.
And it was totally last minute, because I'd literally just arrived in Houston three days earlier, from London.
I was like "Holy fuck, guys! You couldn't have told me this a week back, so I could have just come straight from London?"
The answer was "No" because the whole GDPR thing totally caught #Google's legal team with its pants down.
Their people were scrambling around the stage in that auditorium at Dublinplex frantically, trying to get a hundred and fifty disparate "consumer-facing" people inline with what they'd thrown together seemingly at the last minute, in an effort to minimize that public shitstorm when it happened.
#FunTimes... ๐คฃ
But that's the point: #GDPR TOTALLY changed the way Google's legal eagles operated, because they weren't about to be caught with their butts exposed again.
Overtly Google vowed to become more transparent, but legalistically it became more duplicitous and sly. If you look back at the blog archives and do a bit of linguistic/sentiment analysis you will see a pronounced shift in tone and content, starting in late 2015, as Googlers began falling inline with the developing legal parameters of the content they put out to the public.
And that's how we ramblingly arrive at "Google doesn't have a list of freelancers," which is just another half-truth to obfuscate the actual fact that freelancers are VERY MUCH in the crosshairs with this.
Once you learn to translate Google doublespeak, life is never the same again.
Oh, and also: "What @darth_na said."
#TheGoogle? #Mythbusting?
How cute...
Were it not for the fact that #Google's words have not matched its actions for at least a decade, or the fact that their mouthpieces speak in halftruths, leaving out crucial details, or the fact that @searchliaison runs for the fucken hills every time he's asked any kind of meaningful question.
Then "mUh mYtHbUsTiNgZ" might actually mean something.
As it stands its merely an act of mass onanism on its fanboys and an ignorant online public.

#TheGoogle stopped giving any kind of honest feedback not riddles with half-truths when Matt Cutts left and Jonathan Simon transitioned to Google Cloud.
Those moves marked #Google's descent into being an evil mega-corp as complete, so don't look for honest answers from any of their mouthpieces.
As for the above, it makes total sense to use aggregate data from the "Don't show content from..." Discover feature to "Quality Score" content at the wholesale level.
Same with the Search Quality Raters... Sure, one score-set from a SQR won't influence your site's rankings.
What about 1,000? 10,000?
Once you factor in scale, it makes perfect sense to use this type of data/user feedback in the algo.
These new classifications speak volumes about how Google is segmenting that feedback for quality scores.
Too many "Untrustworthy Source" user labels?
"You're nicked my sunshine!"
And you're consigned to algo hell for spreading #misinformation.
When I go to #TheGoogle now and punch in lions, I don't get furry creatures, I get the @Lions, the grittiest, hardest-working team in sports.

Why I love #TheGoogle. My question was: Why Is The Equalizer is not new tonight, November 10. And I found the answer.
But don't be playing, @CBS She better be back next week!

@darth_na @rustybrick @JohnMu @searchliaison @dannysullivan @lilyraynyc @glenngabe @Marie_Haynes Happy Birthday Barry
@darth_na: To be fair, many #Googlers are competent at their roles & do not share #Google's colossally evil goals.
What's lacking for the past decade is real world & professional experience, as #TheGoogle has been hiring noobs straight out of college.
@pedrodias @rustybrick @JohnMu @googlesearchc #TheGoogle's algo updates!
Now with added Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle!
@darth_na @PeterMindenhall @Kevin_Indig I get my content ranked before it's crawled, all the time.
Are you guys not using #TheGoogle's Predictive Inclusion Grouping - System Heuristic Indexing Tool yet?
But now I really, really, really want croissants. #TheGoogle is sending me to #Cannelle downtown. So see ya!

@darth_na "It's a demi-search engine, based on scraped results from your Search Engines!"
So like Dogpile.
On a more serious note, you either need to convince the Internet to stop producing content, or the plebs to stop using #TheGoogle, etc.
Until then, Google OWNS its users.

@pedrodias You can remedy the situation by making all the link juice on your site flow to the home page.
The easiest way to achieve this is by 301 redirecting all its pages to the domain root.
This will send a VERY CLEAR signal to #TheGoogle.

I still say @IAMQUEENLATIFAH is a dead ringer for the iconic writer who changed lives. Use #TheGoogle to see for yourself.
Looking forward to celebrating Zora tomorrow for what would have been her 132nd birthday! How has Zora Neale Hurston inspired you?

I'm loving how #TheGoogle's psyop of pre-announcing the #HelpfulnessUpdate is scaring the willies off the #SEO sector.
Now everyone's frantically deleting dross before the thing rolls, & Google knows exactly who's culpable, because destroying evidence implies knowledge of guiltยน

@darth_na @searchliaison Is it somehow comforting or disturbing that #TheGoogle keeps doing the same crap it's always done?
I mean, it adds a certain predictability factor, sure.
But it also means that company policy is evidently unwilling to break out of its long-established decision making paradigm.
@JohnMu @skylanche Some time back #TheGoogle created a meta tag for this kind of thing, where site owners don't feel like they're getting the SERP love they deserve.
Here it is:
<meta name="Google_SERP_Rank" content="#1" />
Puts your site right at the top, every time.
That's how #SEO works ๐
