City Power’s Inner City Service Delivery Centre (SDC) has noted that the low number of customers coming in to update their prepaid electricity meters ahead of the 24 November deadline may be due to many having bypassed, vandalised, or non-vending meters. These customers are reportedly reluctant to visit the SDC for assistance with the upgrade. The areas most affected by meter bypassing include Jeppestown, Malvern, Berea, Yeoville, Bez-Valley, Hillbrow, and others. The business has extended its working hours this weekend until 7:00 PM, offering a final grace period to resolve meter issues before the deadline. City Power is urging all affected customers to come in before Sunday to avoid disconnection. After the deadline, disconnections will be intensified for those with bypassed, vandalised, or non-vending meters, and customers will face penalties for reconnection.

Customers arrive in low numbers to update prepaid meters at Inner City SDC ahead of deadline
As the 24 November deadline for prepaid meter upgrades looms, customers visiting the Inner City Service Delivery Centre (SDC) in Johannesburg have arrived in fewer numbers than expected. City Power remains optimistic that all customers will have their meters updated in time for the Sunday deadline.
At the SDC, staff members have been working diligently to accommodate those who need to update their meters, with many customers expressing relief at the support provided. City Power has been working tirelessly to meet the needs of its customers, with only 607 vending customers left who have not yet upgraded their meters. Despite the limited time remaining, the utility company remains confident that all will be taken care of before the Sunday deadline.
