The Lenasia Service Delivery centre is experiencing a low influx of customers coming in to update their prepaid meters and register meter installations as the deadline is fast approaching.
Customers that have bypassed, vandalised, or non - vending meters are urged to update their meters before the Saturday, 30 November 2024. Penalty fees have been suspended until Sunday, 01 December 2024, thereafter this fee will be imposed to customers that have not updated their meters. ^LM

All Vending Customers Upgraded and Grace Period On Penalty Fees Extended For Non-Vending Meters
City Power would like to inform customers who have not yet converted their meters not to panic ahead of tonight's Token Identifier (TID) Rollover deadline.
With more previously non-vending customers in queues by this afternoon, City Power has decided to extend the grace period for non-payment of penalty fees to 30 November 2024. ^KM

An Alexandra pensioner has confessed to being one of the individuals who illegally reconnected to the City Power network for a very long time. Speaking at the Alexandra Service Delivery Centre (SDC) amidst long queues for prepaid electricity meter upgrades, the customer claims that Eskom is responsible for the illegal reconnection to City Power network and alleges that the utility took their meter boxes after refusing to accept tokens. Customers with bypassed, vandalized, or non-functioning meters are required to update them by midnight today. After this deadline, disconnection efforts will increase, and penalties will be imposed to restore service. The SDC is hoping to reduce the long queues by the closing time of 07h00pm and also awaiting a directive on whether to extend the upgrade process much as Eskom has announced.^KM

Customers queue from as early as 04h00 at Lenasia Service Delivery Centre (SDC), as they race against the clock to ensure that their unconverted meters are TID compliant before the deadline at 19h00 this evening.
At Lenasia SDC, customers have come out in numbers, with queues snaking in and around the depot. Majority of customers here today are elderly citizens, who report that they were uncertain about the status of their meters and whether they will face any penalties.
City Power officials are working tirelessly to ensure that customers with bypassed and non-vending meters are converted today.
Once the deadline has elapsed, customers who have not heeded the call for meter upgrades will face financial penalties up to R30000 as well as power disruptions.^KM
