#tmot34 I think the turning point of the fighting was when Miller realized that there were women and children killed. He knew that the dispute has turned into straight up murder of his race and it really disturbed him and caused him to feel that his family was in danger now.

Mammy Jane’s last words are “Comin’, missus, comin’!” While it’s possible that she was referring to Olivia, who had called her over, I think it is more likely that she was referring to her original mistress, whom Jane was coming to see in the afterlife. What do you think? #TMOT34

This little tangent in #tmot34 shows Chesnutt’s opinion on perspective. From the perspective of white people, anything that might be deemed as morally heroic or right is regarded as desperation. I think that really applies to the modern day too, like the whole kneeing events.

#tmot34 there’s a loss of morals/responsibility or commitment to promises which can b seen by mammy jane’s death (she was considered family by the carterets so it would seem she would be protected from the violence but it’s obv not the case)
