“For the first time, we can watch pancreatic cancer rebuild its environment in real time,” said Dr. Ashutosh Agarwal, co-director of Engineering Cancer Cures™, associate professor of engineering at the University of Miami and senior author of the study.
The study uncovered a previously unknown population of cells that may serve as a therapeutic target, opening the door to strategies to disrupt the tumor's protective environment and make existing treatments more effective.
“If you want to treat the disease effectively, you have to understand how all of these components interact and reinforce each other,” said @DrJashDatta.
GPA alone can't show what students really learn. One university rebuilt its credit system to track actual competency growth instead.

Through the Glaser Award, Dr. Datta’s team will advance a new therapeutic strategy targeting the interleukin-1 (IL-1) inflammatory pathway, which pancreatic tumors use to suppress immune responses and resist treatment.
