Wow, and you thought I was kidding about #Trump48
America 🇺🇸. If you do rip up parts of your most beautiful Constitution and the 22nd Amendment, I think 67 year old Obama vs 82 year old Trump would be fascinating. Move to 🇨🇦!
Trump #48? He would be 82 years old, but the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution limits a President to 2 terms. Would you be willing to change it to let Trump run in 2028? Believe it or not, there is talk of this!
The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits a president to two terms, whether they are consecutive or non-consecutive. Since Trump has now served two terms (as the 45th and 47th president), he would be constitutionally barred from running again.
How Could Trump Run for a Third Term?
For Trump (or any two-term president) to serve a third term, the U.S. would need to amend the Constitution to remove or modify the 22nd Amendment. Here’s how that could happen:
1.Congress Proposes an Amendment
•A two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate would need to approve a constitutional amendment repealing or altering the 22nd Amendment.
2.States Ratify the Amendment
•The proposed amendment would then need to be ratified by three-fourths (38 out of 50) of state legislatures to take effect.
Alternatively, a Constitutional Convention could be called if two-thirds of state legislatures (34 states) request it, but this has never been done in U.S. history.
Would This Be Likely?
•Repealing the 22nd Amendment would be extremely difficult because constitutional amendments require overwhelming support.
•The idea of a president serving more than two terms is historically unpopular, as the two-term limit was established to prevent excessive concentration of power.
•No serious effort to repeal the 22nd Amendment has gained traction in modern history.
So, unless the Constitution is amended, Trump cannot legally run for a third term in 2028.
