Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline project In a documentary titled "The Blue Gold Road" on Algerian television, Nigerien politician Oumar Moctar Alansary emphasized that they view the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline project as a decisive and crucial strategic choice for the national economy. He stated that they see it as a qualitative leap and a real leverage for economic transformation, strengthening energy sovereignty, and ensuring sustainable development, adding, "This project will transform our country from a transit state receiving only limited transit fees to an active and directly benefiting partner in the global energy value chain." Alansary further expressed the following views in the program: "Our national company, SONIDEP, is guaranteed a fixed ownership share in addition to advantageous and sustainable transit fees that will ensure a regular flow of foreign currency. In the medium term, within a period of five to ten years, we expect tangible benefits: direct financial revenues that will strengthen the state budget, finance social and development programs, reduce dependence on foreign aid, and pave the way for the supply of natural gas for domestic consumption." This will support processing industries, enhance energy security, and encourage investment in related sectors. In the long term, this project will become a key tool for diversifying the national economy, mitigating risks associated with volatile commodity prices, and positioning Niger as an influential player in African and international energy markets, particularly in a global context where the need for diversified and reliable energy sources is evident.
