ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - There is a massive police presence at Stone Mountain Park on Thursday evening.
DeKalb County police, some seen heavily armed, have all entrances to the park blocked.
Police told a visitor to get off the mountain because there was a man with a gun at the top. However, reports of anyone with a weapon have not been confirmed.
At around 6:20 p.m., First Alert Chopper saw what appeared to be a person being detained and put into a police cruiser.

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A man has died after opening fire on top of Stone Mountain and shooting himself after being confronted by police.
Stone Mountain Park police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that witnesses heard six shots being fired, but no one was injured.
Police say he climbed over the fence at the top of the mountain.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A new trial began for three men accused of murdering a beloved high school football coach during an attempted car theft at a QuikTrip gas station in 2022.

Bradley Coleman, 29, was putting air in his tires when prosecutors say 22-year-old Josiah Hughley shot him in the head during a struggle. Two alleged accomplices, David Booker and Miles Collins, are also charged with murder for allegedly assisting in the attempted theft and getaway.

ATLANTA — Nearly a week later, several school districts in north Georgia are still feeling the effects of the winter storms that moved through on Friday morning.
Half a dozen districts are either continuing virtual learning or delaying the start of the school day on Thursday due to icy conditions.
Here are the school districts making changes.

ATLANTA — The remnants of last week’s winter storm are still causing icy conditions in the North Georgia mountains, prompting several of those school districts to close or go virtual.
Here is our full list of closures:
Habersham County Schools will be closed on Wednesday.
Pickens County Schools will be on a 2-hour delay.
Fannin, Gilmer, Rabun, Towns and Union County districts will have virtual learning on Wednesday.

Kimberly Johnson, 55, of Hampton, Ga., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to swindle the United States in a mortgage fraud scheme.

As of the latest models Wednesday night, if you live in the far North Georgia mountains, you will likely see about 4-6 inches of snow by the time the storm leaves early Saturday morning.

DORAVILLE, Ga. — A growing memorial outside the Honduran Consulate Office in DeKalb County honors the sacrifice of Jesus Loera, a security guard who was shot and killed while protecting people from a gunman trying to enter the building.
“It’s really sad the way he went out, but I’m very happy that he saved a bunch of lives from being taken that day,” Josue Valdez, one of the mourners who added flowers to the memorial, told Channel 2′s Matt Johnson.
Loera, originally from Mexico, died during the attack, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. in front of the consulate. Doraville police arrested 32-year-old Jose Emanuel Olmo-Rosado on Monday and charged him with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A mother is grieving after someone shot up her home and one of the bullets hit and killed her 5-year-old son.
“It was like a horror movie, just a horror movie in real life,” Lauren Arouni told Channel 2′s Tom Jones.
Jones went by the home where the shooting took place and noticed around 15 bullet holes.

The announcement from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau comes just before the White House is set to change administrations, with President Joe Biden leaving office and President-elect Donald Trump returning to the White House for a second term.
The announcement from the CFPB finalized a rule proposed in June, following a strong push by lawmakers, including U.S. Senator from Georgia Rev. Raphael Warnock, to keep medical debts and bills out of credit reports to help consumers.
