@TxSocialStudies Q5: I was in a team meeting today and I heard a great idea from a team (@DenhamTeach) that uses WIN (What I Need) time at the end of every unit before talking the assessment. Students can reflect on their learning to enhance their understanding! #TXCSSTalks
A5: making kids TALK about history. Reading and listening is their input but writing and speaking is the output. They must do it all. #TXCSSTalks

A3: another tough one. I always love giving students cards with causes/effects or different categories of content and have them sort before you talk about it. See what they know AND practice skills. #TXCSSTalks

A4: I like to combine reflection & writing with a strategy called, “write a little a lot” - SS write on lined colored paper cut in 1/4 to start; expand paper to back, then 1/2, & eventually you can work up to SS writing a page -Great TELPAS strategy too #TXCSSTalks

Curation is another skill that has to be taught to our #socialstudies students. We can't just turn them loose into a library or world of digital resources and say "go find it." #TXCSSTalks

Q5 We use the start of a lesson. It is a good time to connect what has been learned and the upcoming content. This can be oral or written. For example, a mini reflection on an event with a prediction of what will come next. And, you are not cramming it in at the end. #TXCSSTalks
@SocialStudies Getting them to see writing as a constructive process and not just a final product is a huge win for them and the teachers! Finding, compiling, and using evidence is a skill essential beyond social studies. Thanks for sharing this. #TXCSSTalks
