@KopunF I'm so proud of @torontolibrary for upholding the free speech rights of Meghan Murphy. I'm so proud of @VanRapeRelief for not cowing to ideological nonsense that wld allow people w/penises into accommodation w/vulnerable biological women.
#takebacktpl are ignoring reality.
Transphobic rhetoric weakens the social basis of trans legitimacy. People like Meghan Murphy know this. They know they’re engaged in a war over defining norms. #TakeBackTPL @fondfaun https://t.co/svK9zqYMsc
@torontolibrary kudos to Toronto's Public Library for allowing feminist #MeghanMurphy to speak. It's about time feminists appreciate the core, essential necessity for free speech. It's so heartening TPL hasn't succumbed to the bullying, censorious forces behind #takebacktpl
My therapist actually went to the #TakeBackTPL protest after seeing how much it had affected me. He’s really great.
Did you hear about the #TakeBackTPL read-in of trans authors (or maybe you were even there!) and feel curious about getting involved in organizing actions like that?
Come to our open studio tomorrow night and plug into our work!
Details below... ✨
Hundreds of people sat down on the streets of TO and read from the works of trans writers in protest of a public library event that featured an anti-trans writer. This moved me to tears. #TransRightsAreHumanRights and libraries need to be safe places.

An important piece asking why media didn't seek out trans people's voices in coverage of #TakeBackTPL
My best effort at pumpkin carving. It was a bit hard to fit on a curved surface…but it says trans women are women. #TakeBackTPL
The truth is that librarians constantly make value judgements about whether library-adjacent programming is in good faith; we always have. That's why you don't see @TPL or @EPLdotCA eagerly soliciting performances by anti-vaxxers and holocaust denialists. #TakeBackTPL
Congratulations, Daniel Sarah, on putting together such a well-organized, loving and positive event -- one that effected real change💥 #TransRightsAreHumanRights #TakeBackTPL
This article does a better job of describing the whole unfolding of the #takebackTPL protest and how police detained peaceful protesters in the library.
PS. That's my photo! 😮 Thanks for featuring my tweets @blogTO
Huge crowds show up to protest against the Toronto Public Library https://t.co/S7egmi3Aaa #Toronto #TorontoPublicLibrary #TPL
The choice of photo is interesting here, given that paints police as being passive to protestors when in fact they were forcibly confining people in the library for the better part of an hour.

After trans rights protest at controversial event, Toronto votes to review community space policies https://t.co/eYFb2GyBYc via @torontostar
actually, transphobia is the nauseating spectacle. @EPLdotCA please do the right thing and keep our libraries a safe space for lgbtq2s+ folks. seeing your ceo say things like this makes me feel unsafe at the epl. #yeg #yeglit #TransRightsAreHumanRights #TakeBackTPL
mother nature was looking out for the right people yesterday because having a read-in and protesting transphobia in this dark, miserable rain would not have been ideal. #TakeBackTPL
To quote whoever started this chant last night at #TakeBackTPL:
"TRANS JOY IS REAL!"
In that spirit, let’s FLOOD the #JusticeForMoka fundraiser this Saturday night!!!

We’re so grateful to everyone who came out last night to #TakeBackTPL, and to the trans activists & allied community members who organized this incredible protest in under a week—special shout-out to @ashleyjaycooper, @fondfaun, @ceilidhbird, @WhitneyFrench1, & ofc @GwenBenaway!
I've thought it through and I think the portrayal of the #TakeBackTPL crowd as an intimidation action by columnists and twitter randos comes down to the fact people find poetry readings really, really intimidating as a rule.
The images from #TakeBackTPL are so inspiring. And on such short notice. Good reminder that the struggle for human rights is never ending. We cannot be complacent. #TransRightsAreHumanRights 👏✊
