MMXの目的って？🛰️☄️
火星の衛星「フォボス」からサンプルを地球へ持ち帰ること。世界初。
火星衛星は、
「火星から生まれた天体」なのか、
それとも「他からやってきた小惑星」なのか。
実はまだよく分かっていません。
サンプルを直接調べることで、
私たちが住む太陽系に
どのようにして生命が存在できる環境が生まれたのか。
水や有機物はどこからやってきたのか。
その起源に迫ろうとしています。
もしかするとフォボス自身が、水を運んできた存在かもしれません。
火星の周りを回るこの小さな天体が、
太陽系や生命についての大きな謎を解く手がかりに。
そして将来、
人類が火星へ向かうとき、
MMXの技術は大きな意味を持つことになるでしょう。

As fans of @mmx_jaxa_en will know, there’s two competing models for the formation of the Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos: #TeamCapture suggests they are captured asteroids while #TeamImpact suggests they formed during a giant impact with Mars (a.k.a. our own Moon). #JpGU2018
Both moon-making scenarios are exciting: #TeamCapture would see us collecting a sample from an early part of the Solar System, bringing back evidence of how water moved from the outer Solar System where it can freeze and be transported, to the inner terrestrial worlds.
