I just think, ‘How dare they?’ How dare they presume to have the right to determine whether a patient lives or dies? Even if they knew what they were doing, which they absolutely do not, they wouldn’t have that right. In my father’s case, the new consultant on the ward explicitly stated that he had been briefed by the PA. When I pointed out that the previous consultant had said it might take at least six weeks for my father to see an improvement in his condition, to my surprise, she immediately piped up that there hadn’t been much change in the two weeks. Clearly, rather than lose face, she was seeking to justify the clinical opinion she had given the consultant that my father was an appropriate candidate for terminal sedation. In my opinion, she paid a key and indefensible role in his death. Moreover, she permitted my father to believe that she was a doctor. Swansea Bay University Health Board are happily spending taxpayers’ money searching and bookmarking my posts, rather than address the impact on patient safety of the calibre of its staff. Can you believe that my father’s repeat D-dimer couldn’t be processed because it had been submitted accompanied by a sputum sample??? SBUHB – Please do remember to bookmark this one 👌🏻
