A 🧵of Daniel Barenboim playing all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas in honour of the great pianist's 80th birthday today. I hope you enjoy listening to some of his magnificent performances; they were an inspiration when I was writing #TheCompleteBeethoven in 2020.
@2ScreamingLord They're great aren't they? I mined them extensively for when I was doing #TheCompleteBeethoven.

Just finished listening to Beethoven's complete chronological catalog. Great experience! Thanks for putting that together, @deeplyclassical #TheCompleteBeethoven
Listening to #TheCompleteBeethoven playlist on Spotify, nearly halfway done now, and confirming: The Marcia Funebre movement of Symphony No. 3 is still what I regard as his orchestral masterpiece!
I've been listening to #TheCompleteBeethoven playlist for a week as put on Spotify by @deeplyclassical . Great choice of recordings, so wonderful to hear the artistic development, but I'm so excited to reach the Pathetique Sonata, my audition piece from college!
Andrés Orozco-Estrada (b. 1977) was a reference for my analyses of the symphonies for #TheCompleteBeethoven. His Youtube cycle generally sticks close to Beethoven's controversial metronome marks, mixing modern strings and winds with biting period brass. https://t.co/dorxxV0Xlm
16/ For 1807 at least Oppersdorf's generosity more than made up the money that Beethoven had lost after his bust-up with Lichnovsky, but what did the Count get for his cash?
Time to look at the music itself. I'll use this video as a reference. https://t.co/xpv1FARsGK
Since 2018 I've listened to over 1200 hours of symphonies for #BeethovenOdyssey. In #Beethoven2020 I wrote about more than 700 pieces for #TheCompleteBeethoven. This programme made me want to do both all over again. You can still hear it online and I recommend you do. Bravo!
@MahanEsfahani Maybe it's because Trump just realized #TheCompleteBeethoven is over. I'll put the Eroica, Ode to Joy & Consecration of the House on repeat for inauguration day, just to be on the safe side.

Greetings Beethoven fans!
Are you in withdrawal now #Beethoven2020 is over? Wondering where you'll get your next fix of the Bonn bombshell now I've finished #TheCompleteBeethoven?
Fear not! The #BeethovenConductors #ClassicalPoll World Cup starts TOMORROW!
Must it be? It MUST be! My journey is at an end.
It's been a JOY to spend #Beethoven2020 with the Bonn Bombshell. My only hope is that I didn't bore you all too much. Now it's good night from me, it's Gute Nacht from him, and it's a Happy New Year from #TheCompleteBeethoven.
#TheCompleteBeethoven Volume 20: 1825 - 1827

Andante maestoso in C major, WoO 62/Hess 41 (1826-7)
1/ The Complete Beethoven ends with some incomplete Beethoven, a fragment intended as the introduction to a String Quintet. Sadly only this piano arrangement survives.

'Wir irren allesamt, WoO 198 (1826)
1/ Beethoven added this creepy chromatic canon to a letter sent to Karl Holz soon after his ill-fated trip back to Vienna in the freezing weather of early December.

New finale for the B-flat String Quartet, Op. 130 (1826)
1/ Beethoven replaced the frightening Grosse Fuge with a much lighter finale at the request of his publisher. People have been arguing over which is best ever since.

@vdehejia @mikeirons12 I shall be asking the same question when #TheCompleteBeethoven reaches Op. 135 tomorrow.
