Microsoft stock just suffered the second-largest single day rout in history, wiping out $440 BILLION of its value.
📉 Microsoft's earnings showed growth, but investors weren't happy.
💲 And no, it's not about Call of Duty, but Azure and AI.
💦 Investors worry that capex on AI infrastructure is rapidly outpacing growth.
🧠 Microsoft's AI bets are increasingly seen as risky against more measured competitors like Google.

Yeah I’m done with @OuterWorlds 2 between Shitty bounty’s that are expensive to clear that stupid flaw system that don’t have a reverse/undo option and achievement bugs all these things has negatively impacted my enjoyment of the game and completely sabotage my initial play through and if I have to start from scratch I may just permanently drop it.
Long story short: You treated Game Pass like a traditional backlog and now you're upset Stalker 2 is leaving the subscription service before you could finish the game.

Breaking: Xbox lost over $300 million in Call of Duty sales in 2024 by putting Black Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass, Bloomberg reports
Call of Duty's lost sales is one of the key reasons why Game Pass price has increased

#TheGamePassEffect iz real.......
Been a triple whammy of former #Xbox execs/devs talking about potential pitfalls of Game Pass recently, all singing a similar tune.
Former Xbox and Activision executive Greg Canessa, had the following to say.
"As a business person, I have questions. I've spent a lot of time modelling Game Pass and things like it for the better part of 15 years, and this idea is not a new idea. This concept of an all you can eat AAA gaming subscription, it's been tried.
We tried it back at Activision, EA's had a programme, Ubisoft's also had a programme. This is not a new idea.
I think it's a bold bet trying to aggregate a tonne of AAA content through acquisition and then force it into being the Netflix of games. So I think it's the right strategy on paper.
I just question if the economics work long term for the development and publishing community.
It's not Netflix, it's not your grandma, it's a gamer, right, it's different."
Then yesterday, former Bethesda executive Pete Hines, had some choice words.
Hines says he witnessed what he “considered to be some short sighted decision making several years ago” that now appears to be “bearing out the way I said.”
He may be referring to the growing layoffs at Bethesda, including studio closures, that occured post Microsoft acquisition, and following the potential under performance of certain titles exasperated by #GamePass sales cannibalisation.
Hines continues.
“Subscriptions have become the new four letter word, right? You can't buy a product anymore,” Hines said. “When you talk about a subscription that relies on content, if you don't figure out how to balance the needs of the service and the people running the service with the people who are providing the content – without which your subscription is worth jack s*** – then you have a real problem.”
“You need to properly acknowledge, compensate and recognize what it takes to create that content and not just make a game, but make a product,” he elaborated. “That tension is hurting a lot of people, including the content creators themselves, because they're fitting into an ecosystem that is not properly valuing and rewarding what they're making.”
Then under the comments of the article, Shannon Loftis, former VP of Microsoft Xbox Game Studios and prior to that head of World's Edge, the studio behind Age of Empires, agreed with Hines, stating;
"As a longtime first party Xbox developer, I can attest that Pete is correct.
While GP can claim a few victories with games that otherwise would have sunk beneath the waves, the majority of game adoption on Gap comes at the expense of retail revenue, unless the game is engineered from the ground up for post-release monetization.
I could (and may someday) write pages on the weird inner tensions this creates."
Where there's smoke there's often fire, and that's three former executives in a short space of time sounding the alarm on potential negative impacts of Game Pass.
On inner tensions, hurting developers and the publishing community, potential business and compensation inadequacies and so on.
Former #PlayStation exec Shawn Layden, has been vocal about his concerns for Game Pass for some time, and in response to Pete Hines, added;
"I believe Pete's colorful quote hits this nail right on the head. The question is not, "is the service profitable for the platform". Is it healthy and helpful for the developer is what we need to ask."

When I told Brian Altano Gamepass wasnt the future and it was a detriment he called me a fanboy and hid behind a Block. Mind you he was reccomending people buy Series X over PS5 because of Gamepass as if Ps5 doesnt have Ps+! Now look #GUAPSTRODAMUS. #TheGamePassEffect

Conversely, Xbox Series X/S only sold 800k for a complete quarter worldwide earlier this year.

The #Xbox version of indie metroidvania #HAAK is cancelled, after it took the studio "over 14 months trying to apply for game publication" and "complete #Microsoft partner ID registration", due to bugs in MS's Partner Center and support. ID@Xbox also couldn't help. S**t show!
