2/3 of the extra days granted to me by my PI for #ThesisWritingChallenge were to step away from writing & give my mind space. Day 3 (today) is for revisions. I didn’t even realize how badly I needed that break until I jumped into editing with ease this morning.

I hit a really good milestone just before midnight so it counts as a win for today 😂. Every chapter drafted and sent to my advisors. Felt good to breathe slightly easier, take a step back and clear my mind a bit.

I’m finding that sometimes what my writing needs most is patience. I know people say thesis doesn’t need to be high quality, but maybe people would be more inclined to read it if it were 🤷♀️. Good things take time.

It's good to have parallel writing projects. I'm finding that focusing in on just one for too long makes me cross-eyed. It's nice to step back and even slightly shift focus.

Maybe my favorite thing about scientific writing is that, unlike creative writing, it actually turns out better when you follow a formulaic structure. Grateful to have learned this from Russ Altman early in my PhD, "Innovate on content, not style."
