A week ago, at the University of Panama, delegates from across Latin America and the Caribbean gathered at the Second Regional Consultation of the Congress of the Greater South #ConGreS to reflect and articulate recommendations on four thematic areas for a #ThirdWayofDevelopment “from the South, by the South, but for the entire Humanity,” Secretary-General @MBinMussallam stated.

The Congres of the Greater South #ConGreS is a momentous process in which delegates throughout the Global South and from across sectors will come together, in a series of consultations culminating with a Summit of the Greater South, to collectively contribute to a new and inclusive future for Humanity through the definition of a Third Way of Development, and the articulation of a common plan of action for its realisation.
The first Africa regional sub-consultation is scheduled for 15-16 May 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya with Scientists, Artists, Writers and Civil Society groups, co-hosted with the All-Africa Students Union @aasu_72, and the Network of African Science Academies @NASAConlineOrg, #OSC Associate Members.

📝From CRISIS to ACTION: A #ThirdWayOfDevelopment in the Global South
#ClimateChange is not a looming threat but a pressing reality that disproportionately affects millions worldwide. As temperatures rise and weather patterns become erratic, communities particularly face devastating consequences on their livelihoods, cultures, and ecosystems.
South-South cooperation is key to facing the climate crisis, and building a #ThirdWayOfDevelopment
The Secretary-General @MBinMussallam held fruitful meetings at #UNEA6 with Minister of Environment of Mauritania, H.E. Lalya Kamara; Minister of State for Environment of Rwanda, Hon. Dr. Claudine Uwera; and Secretary-General, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Madagascar, Mr. Andry Fidiniaina Moïse Rasamoelina.
It was both an honour and pleasure to receive @SingoeiAKorir, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya, at @OSC_OCS Headquarters. We engaged in a wide-ranging and fruitful discussion on the #ThirdWayOfDevelopment and, in particular, on the Common Leveraging Union of Borrowers (#CLUB). We look forward to intensified, results-oriented engagement with Kenya in the areas of balanced and inclusive education, transdisciplinary research, endogenous technology, as well as debt sustainability and equitable financing for development – underpinned by amplified South-South cooperation.
I called on @MBinMussallam Secretary General @OSC_OCS at the organization's headquarters in Addis Ababa. This intergovernmental institution promotes a third way of development that acknowledges a diversity of development approaches and paradigms amongst countries in the Global South. He also appraised me on the recently formed Common Leveraging Union of Borrowers established to provide collective voice for countries in the South to engage with debt sustainability and responsible lending issues. I welcomed the organization to work with Kenya on its areas of mandate.
On our last day in Banjul, I had the honour to meet with the President of the Republic of The Gambia, H.E. @BarrowPresident at the @Presidency_GMB.
We engaged in a wide-ranging and fruitful exchange of views on the need for a #ThirdWayOfDevelopment , centred around transformative balanced and inclusive education, transdisciplinary research, endogenous technologies, underpinned by amplified South-South cooperation and integration.
We also concurred on the crucial role of the Common Leveraging Union of Borrowers
(#CLUB), established by our Member States in November 2023, to ensure greater fiscal space through collective debt relief and highly concessional and unconditioned finance for development, as well as a more equitable and sustainable international financial architecture.
Being entirely aligned in our determination to ensure endogenous, homegrown development, we agreed to pursue a number of concrete projects in the @OSC_OCS areas of expertise.
A most fruitful day for concrete cooperation between The Gambia and @OSC_OCS in service of a #ThirdWayOfDevelopment, with meetings with the Hon. Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of Finance, of Basic and Secondary Education, and of Higher Education.
The Secretary-General @MBinMussallam and the Ministers explored areas of cooperation on endogenous #technology, #education, and sovereign #debt based on the OSC flagship programmes, in service of a #ThirdWayOfDevelopment — from and by the South, for Humanity.
Delighted to be once more in Banjul for my first official visit to The Gambia since its admission as an @OSC_OCS Member State, and to concretise significant areas of cooperation in service of a #ThirdWayOfDevelopment — from and by the South, for Humanity.
