Going to be a gold mine for story... Do us all a favour and zip it. You promised the world for Buck’s big arc and buried it faster than anyone could say boo. Excuse my asking, but what gold mine of stories are you sitting on exactly? We have Chris on the show, we have Jee, and now Baby Nash, plus Denny and Mara already in the mix. With all these kids around, you still couldn’t do some actual mining?
Except for Chris, and that wild tsunami ride with Buck, while the rest barely registered. What's next? Throwing Buck into a volcano with Theo? What’s supposed to be so fresh that you are eager to tell? Episodes you could forget they were ever on the show. Or does Theo suddenly fly helicopters and work with Team Free Will at the kindergarten fire station?
This is an ensemble show, yet unlike earlier seasons, you can’t even string together continuous plots anymore. The emergency openers have turned ridiculous, and every personal crisis gets wrapped up in a tidy little hour, no matter how heavy it is. Killing off parents isn’t bold, it’s outright tasteless. Using their deaths as a cheap plot device to shove Buck into foster father mode is even worse. Theo’s mom gave birth on Buck’s couch, and he felt nothing; only for the blink of an eye, he developed something like fatherly feelings. As the kid grew older, he didn't participate in that process either. No calls, no check-ins, zero interest in the kid’s development. Then, suddenly, after his own trauma and drug spiral, all he wants is to play dad? I’d love to know what you were smoking when you wrote that one. It’s painfully obvious you’re just scratching your own itch, maybe tossing a bone to the pearl-clutchers, who are thrilled that BIconBuck got quietly retired.
We see the pattern. You only kill people when they block the plot you want. Everyone else walks away from illness, kidnapping, addiction, shootings or stabbings like it was a bad Tuesday. Oh, right, Bobby’s death was for “realism.” Of course. And now Buck gets a random toddler son for “realism”, too, a kid he last saw when he drove the mom to the hospital after she gave birth. To sell it, you turned the parents into the worst kind of caricature before you iced them. Totally believable. When the writing fails, lean hard on stereotypes. Maybe it’s time you to take your head as you lost your mojo. You’re either bored with your OGs, or you’ve genuinely run dry and started raiding AO3 and begging ChatGPT for ideas.
Yours truly, someone who once loved this show, until it became unwatchable. That time has arrived. It was nice while it lasted. Peace out 💅✌️
P.S. Do you even realize that the actors aren't that much invested in your "ideas" and are either to baffled to react or tell you to stick it and rewrite their part... You inability show, mucho.
I can only hope, Kenny and Ryan eventually find something else, because they deserve better than @ABCNetwork and #timminear and his ameture writing and showrunning.
