For today's #TithePlanTuesday, we bring you the Whitehouse in Kirk Michael, a historic estate which at this time of year is a backdrop to some rather famous road races. Landowner Evan Gell also acquired Ellerslie farm in Marown before his death in 1887. #ManxArchives #IOMTT

This week's edition of #TithePlanTuesday takes us to Laxey Village in 1862. Shown here are the lands belonging to Captain Richard Rowe, Manager of the Great Laxey Mining Company. #ManxArchives #IsleOfMan #LaxeyWheel

This week's #TithePlanTuesday comes from Ballaugh Parish. In 1840, Ellan Rhennee and Ballakeoge belonged to James Wilks, son of Elizabeth Christian and the Reverend James Wilks (described in Manx Worthies as 'the ablest Manx clergyman of his time'). #ManxArchives #IsleOfMan

As it's #ManxGrandPrix race week, this week's #TithePlanTuesday comes to you from a notorious section of the TT course! In 1835, Ballagarey Farm was owned by Scottish lawyer, Norman Lockhart. This plan shows the usage of each field - crops, clover, pasture, meadow. #ManxArchives.

Maps and plans help us to visualise places when physical traces no longer remain. This Asylum Plan shows us Cooper's Mill in Peel in 1864. The buildings shown here date from 1859, when the mill was rebuilt after a fire. #TithePlanTuesday

This week's #TithePlanTuesday comes to you from the parish of Michael. Isn't this 1839 plan of Ballacarnane Moar wonderful? Surveyor Patrick Kelly typically embellished his work when the land-holding was sizeable and the landowner of some standing. #ManxArchives #IsleOfMan

For this week's #TithePlanTuesday, we're in St Mark's. The village fair is still held on the site below the church cottages. In May 1880, a reporter at the fair commented that "rival manure merchants and the sellers of 'jough' (ale)" saw the liveliest trade. #ManxArchives #IOM

This #TithePlanTuesday comes to you from Ballaugh Curraghs. Depicted are privately-owned turbaries: pieces of land where peat or turf could be dug for fuel. The first plan dates from 1826, making it one of the oldest records of its type in our archive. #ManxArchives #IsleOfMan

It's #TithePlanTuesday, so here is Laureston Mansion House in 1840. Then, it was in the parish of Onchan; now, it's a Douglas address. Laureston became the home of Major James Spittall, for whom these plans for a coachman's lodge were drawn up in 1908. #ManxArchives #ManxHistory

Here's something different for this week's #TithePlanTuesday! This is a reminder to landowners to have their estates surveyed, as required by the Act For Commutation of Tithes 1839. The document gives us great insights into the work undertaken by the surveyors. 1/2

For this week's #TithePlanTuesday, here's a plan of Ballure, near Ramsey. It's dated 1824, making it one of the oldest land records in our collections! The Christians of Ballure gradually sold land in this area, enabling the development of the #ManxElectricRailway. #IsleOfMan

This landscape looks as though it's part of Middle-earth but is in fact in the parish of German. The plan dates from 1837 and shows the estate of William Kelly, bearing the fabulous (and puzzling) title of Monte-Cassino. #IsleOfMan #ManxArchives #TithePlanTuesday

Most tithe plans were drawn up in 1839 in response to the Tithe Commutation Act of that year. Occasionally, though, a landowner submitted an existing survey from a much earlier date. This plan of Ballagyr near Peel was created in 1812. #IsleOfMan #TithePlanTuesday #ManxArchives

Many Isle of Man folk will have memories of Ravensdale Castle in Ballaugh as a hotel. When this plan was drawn in 1839, the property was the private residence of Lieutenant Colonel James Campbell; it was he who changed its name from Knockan House to Ravensdale. #TithePlanTuesday

The star of this week's #TithePlanTuesday is the Woodbourne Estate, which in 1839 was situated in the parish of Onchan. Once the residence of the Harrison family (and 'Manx Worthy' AW Moore), Woodbourne House was incorporated into the new Freemasons' Hall in 1924. #ManxArchives

There are Mule Mountains in Arizona and California. But did you know that we have a Mule Mountain in the #IsleOfMan, too? Thanks to this Rushen Tithe Plan, we know that it was Meayll Hill by another name! #TithePlanTuesday #ManxArchives

For today's #TithePlanTuesday, we've headed up into the hills for a breath of fresh air. Here's lofty Mount Karrin (Carrin) in the Parish of Lezayre, with the Sulby River winding through the valley far below. #IOMPROArchives #IsleOfMan

Did you know that the small parish of Bride #IsleOfMan has a city? You do now! Here it denotes a homestead, with variant spellings 'cytty' and 'citten'. Also in Bride is 'Her Majesties Rabbit Warren' - we confess to being stumped by this one! π°#TithePlanTuesday #Archives
