#coronaviruswinechallenge Day 12. Unicorn happy hour. The ultra rare Szepsy #Furmint from the 2014 #TokajAuction. Apricot fruit is fantastic; pity about the heavy-handed Hungarian oak.
#coronaviruswinechallenge Day 3: #Tokaj #Furmint from hot 2015 now mostly dead. Not this. From the loathed state-owned ex-kombinat, shows lovely white honey+wax richness with no oxidation & lemony punch. Lives up to its #TokajAuction status.
The 2018 #TokajAuction is concluded. Some great bidding, some disappointments. Report and results coming soon.
This year's #TokajAuction big moment : the 1963 Aszú 5P from Grand Tokaj, 12 bottles liquid history sold at 500€ each to London's @67pallmall so u know where to taste it by the glass!
Previsouly unsold, Kikelet #Furmint Lonyai 2017 comes back at #TokajAuction and Hungarian–German #Tokaj collector buys it at starting price, 16€.
Now or never: today's best sweet wine (for many), Disznókő #Tokaj Aszú 6P Dorgó 2015 starts at 39€ per bottle only: @67pallmall steps in and buys at starting price. #TokajAuction
Lot 37, Béres Sweet Szamorodni #Tokaj 2016 is again more than good value at 16€ and finally a young 30-ish Hungarian collector wakes up and bags the bargain! #TokajAuction
Myrtus Hárslevelű Lestár 2017—no bidder despite a much reasonable 12€ per bottle. Same for the positive surprise of this morning's tasting: Kincsem Kastély’s Hárslevelű 2013. #TokajAuction
Finally some bidding auction! London’s @67PallMall and Poland’s @fermentmag go up 100% for the Szent Benedek 2012 Sweet Szamorodni. Poland has the upper hand! Another win for @Fermentmag #TokajAuction
Lot #31 and 32, Patricius’s very traditional and concentrated Aszú 6P Selection 2016 starts at 81€—ambitious!!! So logically there is no bidder. #TokajAuction
Kvaszinger’s mineral #Furmint Meszes 2017, another good bargain, bought at 13€ bu Hungarian–German collector who clearly now his wines! #TokajAuction
On to the explosive Sauska #Furmint Dorgó 2017, there is again no bidder at (and admittedly ambitious) 32€ per bottle. #TokajAuction falling into a slumber. Where’s your energy guys!
Lots #25 and 26, emerging winery Préselő sold Furmint Messzelátó 2016 starts at 16€/bottle—and finds no bidder! #TokajAuction
Now on to a #Tokaj speciality, lot #7 Samuel Tinon’s unique Dry Szamorodni 2011. Polish wine magazine @Fermentmag / @Winicjatywa again the highest bidder at 25% above starting price. These Polish guys are thirsty! #TokajAuction
One of two 135-bottle lots of Tinon's Tokaji Aszú 5P 2013 sold at starting price of 43€ per bottle. You can still buy the other lot at the end of #TokajAuction…
Lot #19 is one of our favs: Disznókő #Furmint single parcel Lajosok 2017, sold at starting price of 13€ per bottle—amazing bargain! #TokajAuction
Lot #18, Füleky Furmint Sajgó 2017, an excellent showing this morning, sold at starting price of 13€—ridiculously low. #TokajAuction
Lot 17, Demetervin’s assertive Sweet Szamorodni 2012, unsold at 25€. #TokajAuction
Lot 16, good job from a local Hungrian collection who snaps up the Hétszőlő Szamorodni Édes Lencsés 2017 at 2m forints, a healthy 24€ per bottle. #TokajAuction
Lot 14–15, Kikelet’s Furmint Lonyai 2017, with proven track record and attractive starting price of 16€, again fails to find a bidder—for now! #TokajAuction
