Keep a sense of humour handy and know that this too will pass. No seriously, know you're making memories for your child. So make it happy. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Soothe your child. Try distracting your child with something, a game, a movie, a song. Ask for help. A sympathetic co-passenger. An airhostess. Its okay. Children get cranky when they're tired. Someone new talking to them does get them quiet sometimes. #TravelWithTimes

It can be trying to deal with a crying child on a flight where everyone is glaring at one. So here's what you can do in this thread. First, try to see if there's something you can fix. A diaper. Hunger. Sleepiness. Figure the trigger. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Goa is a perfect fit in India; most of the beaches also have lifeguards stationed 24x7. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

@KalpanaTOI @TOItravel I would definitely suggest a place that is not too far from a proper city where medical facilities can be available if needed, plenty of destinations, but I think beach vacations would be best for this age span. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Please do remember to have your bag with enough lozenges to help ear popping during take off and landing if you're flying, that can be quite painful and uncomfortable for a child. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Summer in India can get rather scorching hot, so I would definitely suggest a cooler spot like the mountains. Having said that beach destinations are great, and the sea can be great fun for a five year old. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

@KalpanaTOI @TOItravel Accessibility, age appropriate things to do for the child, climate, the kind of accommodation, and of course, the travel time to the destination. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Colouring books are a lifesaver with young kids, rubik's cube, finger puppet games they can play with each other, board games, etc can also work. Have them make lists of interesting things they saw if on a road trip. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

While gadgets are wonderful babysitters on long trips--many a times, movies have kept peace and calm on a long flight, do carry doodling pads, pencils, audio books, favourite toys, and old fashioned car games can always help. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

And yes, if you are travelling with a baby, do keep in mind the roads at your destination, are they stroller friendly, what kind of temperatures will the place be when you are there, medical facilities available in the event of an emergency. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Know what will be fun for your child, and choose accordingly. A child who is keen on science might find science museum visits interesting, a child with a love for animals might find a farmstay fun. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

We agree; toddlers inside a museum might put others at discomfort as well. What do you guys think? #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes

Definitely. You need to factor in the age of your child/children, and what would interest the child at that age into your choice of destination. A toddler might not appreciate being lugged through museums. An older child might get bored at a theme park. #TOITravelAsksKiran

You also need to keep in mind accessibility-how long is the travel, how convenient are transfers, what is the journey like. Long journeys can be tiring and taxing for smaller children. #TOITravelAsksKiran #TravelWithTimes
