We repaired this #treebed as part of our #TreesWestVillage project. We removed the blocks, amended the soil, mulched, and our interns watered the #tree. We were delighted to return and see that someone installed a #treeguard - THANK YOU!

The building that this tree is in front did a good job of keeping as much salt as possible out of the #treebed when de-icing the sidewalk. This can be accomplished by shoveling first and then using a spreader for an even coat of salt on the sidewalk that helps keep it ice free!

The @NYCParks Department is getting ready for spring #StreetTree planting! The white marks show that this #TreeBed will be cut to the new 5 foot by 10 foot size for the new #tree.

There is still time to #plantbulbs in #treebeds this #fall and some #retailers are beginning to #discount remaining supplies! Remember to dig around any large #roots in the #treebed and #plant at least 18 inches away from the trunk if the #tree was planted in the last few years.

Throughout #September, #seedpods have started appearing on our #milkweeds! We have some milkweeds in the same #treebed that grew from last fall’s seeds, so we might move these to another when they are ready. #NYCurbanforest #NYCplants #NYCflowers #plantnative #pollinatorfood

Our Education Director and Arborist, Sam Bishop, found this #blackwalnut #tree planted in a street #treebed in Brooklyn. We are not sure how it got there, but it is happy and growing well! #nycurbanforest

The #milkweeds in our #treebed with #nativeplants got #aphids. Then along came some ladybugs and ate almost all the aphids from this #milkweed in just a few days! The tan insects with black dots are #ladybuglarva, the yellow ones are the aphids. Thank you #ladybugs! #pollinators

A #ladybuglarva and a #wasp are enjoying the #butterflyweed #flowers in our #treebed made up of mostly #nativeplants. Did you know #wasps come from a very large and diverse group? There are actually a lot more species than just the yellow and black varieties we usually think of!

It rained so hard yesterday that I didn’t get my walk until it was DARK! I don’t do this often but it was ok, although I didn’t see Squizzer around - I think he must have been tucked up in #treebed #HoneyMidnightMooching
