اکسیوس به نقل از دو مقام ارشد آمریکایی گزارش داد پس از آنکه چندین رهبر عرب و مسلمان فشار فوری بر دولت دونالد ترامپ وارد کردند تا از تهدید به خروج از مذاکرات عقبنشینی کند، برنامه برگزاری نشست آمریکا و ایران در عمان در روز جمعه با هدف گفتوگو درباره یک توافق هستهای دوباره به مسیر خود بازگشت.
به گفته این مقامها، دستکم ۹ کشور منطقه در بالاترین سطوح پیامهایی به کاخ سفید منتقل کردند که شامل درخواست صریح برای لغو نکردن نشست با جمهوری اسلامی در عمان بود.
یک مقام ارشد آمریکایی به اکسیوس گفت چند کشور عربی و مسلمان از آمریکا خواستند نشست برگزار شود و به مواضع ایران گوش داده شود. او افزود: «به طرفهای عرب گفتیم اگر اصرار داشته باشید، نشست را برگزار میکنیم، اما نسبت به شانس موفقیت بسیار بدبین هستیم.»
یک مقام ارشد آمریکایی دیگر نیز گفت دولت ترامپ «از سر احترام» به درخواست متحدان آمریکا در منطقه و «برای ادامه پیشبرد مسیر دیپلماتیک» با برگزاری این نشست با جمهوری اسلامی موافقت کرده است.
