I disagree. My house, my rules. If you live under my roof, you live under my order. You will do every chore that is set before you, and you will do it without entitlement. I do not shape my decisions around your feelings because I am not your friend. I am your father, your guardian, the one legally and morally bound to feed you, clothe you and protect you, and, in return, you must learn how to be someone worth protecting. There is no such thing as unconditional love in my house. I am not Christ; even Christ demands your soul in exchange for his grace. Teenager or not, raging hormones or not, impulsive or not, you will be respectful and you will do what is expected of you. If you choose to refuse, then you are also choosing to provide for yourself. And to those who think such firmness is wicked or “financial abuse,” let me be clear: the real wickedness is to watch a child cultivate ugly habits, to excuse those habits under the soft banner of “they’ll outgrow it,” and then send them into the world unprepared. News flash: they won’t outgrow it. Bad character fed by indulgence grows teeth. Big cats kind of teeth. That is precisely why I will not excuse it. A home without boundaries raises adults who cannot handle consequences. A parent who never says “no” produces a child who believes life will never say “no” to them, until it does—brutally. As my child, my duty is not to make you ‘comfortable’; my duty is to make you capable. If that makes me an evil father, then so be it. I would rather be called “evil” and raise a child who stands tall than be called “kind” and raise a badly behaved child who leaves nothing but shame and disgrace in their wake.
