End the faux Howard-era dichotomy between onshore & offshore humanitarian visas. Retrain DHA from top to bottom. Bring on a Human Rights Act that would comply with international human rights law & forbid indefinite detention, boat turn-backs & much more.

The federal govt is reportedly upgrading security & facilities at Christmas Is. Immigration Detention Centre in anticipation of arrivals by sea. Some 35 Sri Lankan nationals, including 3 women & 3 girls aged 8, 13 15, were recently brought to Christmas Is & repatriated.
We hope for a similar groundswell for the #refugees suffering at our hands.

Wind back the laws that punish
We hope this group will fundamentally change the actions and the laws around seeking asylum in Australia. The worn out failed policy of deterrence urgently needs to be replaced by solutions that offer #safepassage & permanent settlement.
