Dual TVET is steadily gaining momentum in Kenya! I had the pleasure of hosting representatives from the Private Sector Taskforce and GIZ, who have been instrumental in supporting the Ministry's implementation of Dual Training. The Taskforce Chair provided a comprehensive update on the progress of industry mapping for training slots across various sectors. This is a crucial step towards enhancing industry participation in skills training. Additionally, I received a copy of the Draft Policy on the Implementation of Dual TVET in Kenya. This policy spearheaded by the State Department is the culmination of over 2.5 years of extensive consultations and collaboration among TVET stakeholders, outlining a clear framework for partnership between technical training institutions and industries in skilling our youth. A key focus of both the Taskforce report and the Dual TVET policy is the imperative to incentivize industry for greater involvement in skills training initiatives, including clear proposals on how this can be achieved. By fostering stronger partnerships between academia and industry, we are not only equipping our youth with the relevant skills for the job market but also driving economic growth and innovation.

Interviews for sourcing the 1,300 TVET trainers commenced today in 10 stations throughout the country. It is anticipated that recruitment of the right personnel will play a critical role in supporting implementation of reforms in our TVET institutions and ensure the Government's vision of skilling the youth with the appropriate competencies is achieved. I officiated the start of the process by conducting spot checks in two stations; the Kisumu and Sigalagala National Polytechnics which hosted a total of 38 institutions situated in these regions. During the checks, I urged the panelists to uphold the constitution of Kenya and other relevant legislative requirements that provide guidelines for a free, fair, and competitive process.
