VERDICT: This may not be the most scintillating farming game out there - but it has plenty to offer in terms of a satisfying game loop.
It looks and plays like a DS game and I'd recommend it to HM fans if you can lay your hands on a cheap DS copy.

And you still have the Harvest Goddess (like in the original Harvest Moon). 🤗
The game feels a lot more varied, with so many activities available from the get go.
All you need to do is bring the 2 towns back together again.

I even discovered you can use large 🍄 as a trampoline (a la Mario) to catapult yourself to difficult to reach spots!

Then there is the foraging!
I'm spending more time having fun in field & forest catching critters and fish, collecting herbs and mushrooms 😀.. than I'm doing farming work!

.. the very slow beginnings in other farming sims, where you can only dream of transport and mobile storage at this stage!
Oh, and you have a kitchen to start with and can cook! 😮
I still can't afford one in Trio of Towns. 😁

So .. is this one to pass by?
Not so fast - hold your horses!
And I *mean* horses, literally!
You have a horse right from the beginning! You can ride it and it pulls a cart - which is basically your home storage box! Amazing if you're used to ..

The writing is pretty perfunctory. We've seen some great and humorous scripting in HM/SoS games - this ain't one of them.

Since I am so impressed with the more recent Trio of Towns, it wasn't easy going back in time to an older game .. but staying with it paid off.
It does have plenty to be criticised for - but also a surprising amount of good features to discover.

At least the full colour manual is charming. 😀
The character models look really nice (although in-game they're simplified).
The game at times looks almost like an RPG Maker game - not bad, just rather simple.

The game was published - only 2 months apart - as both a DS and 3DS version. This doesn't sit right with me, as the 3D is extremely poor, and the game looks like a wholesale copy of the DS game on the 3DS. So .. a poor first impression.
#3DS Appreciation Day 36
It's another farming sim. 👩🌾
