#DidYouKnow #MartuCountry is home to 50% of Western Australia’s and 30% of Australia’s greater bilby recovery sites? #KJMartuRangers play a vital role in conservation. Using #TwoWayScience they set up cameras near bilby burrows to study behaviour and interactions.

🦜🌙 #KJMartuRangers headed out on-Country to retrieve a sound recorder capturing the calls of the elusive #Ngarrijirri (#NightParrot). This data will help us learn more about these endangered nocturnal birds. #IndigenousConservation #CaringForCountry #MartuCountry #TwoWayScience

#KJMartuRangers prepare for a new field season! They #CareForCountry by working with #Elders to locate + clean out water places + use right-way fire. Combining #TraditionalKnowledge with Western science for #TwoWayScience to protect #ThreatenedSpecies + control feral animals.

During a six-day trip, our #JigalongRangers used #IntergenerationalKnowledge, #TrackingSkills, and technology to monitor #FeralCats and other predators. With a #TwoWayScience approach, they actively protect native species on #MartuCountry from ongoing predator threats.

Indigenous ways of sharing knowledge are different & we need to find ways to benefit from that information but in the same way, make sure that the communities who are sharing knowledge can benefit too - keynote speaker Dr Ian Cresswell #ESASCBO2022 #RightWayScience #TwoWayScience

One of the species that I recorded inhabiting sandalwood communities during my PhD fieldwork.
Aboriginal sandalwood harvesters in Martu and Badimia Country told me that it is the most common species to scamper out of a sandalwood tree when it is being uprooted.

This Pygmy Spiny-tailed Skink (Egernia depressa) was snapped at Hamelin Station Reserve, Malgana country, WA. These skinks can normally be found in fallen timber and tree hollows where they hide from predators, but this one was out in the sun for its close-up 🕺

Well, Australian sandalwood didn’t win #AustraliasFavouriteTree on #Catalyst tonight.
But I was so honoured that it was chosen, and to talk with @jones_ann @ABCscience about the ecological and cultural importance of this ancient tree.
