Re: Zero Season 4, Episode 19 (FINALE) - Spoiler Warning Sorry for the wait, I did get bombarded with people asking me when I'd make the post, but y'all had to let White Fox cook. And boy, did they cook. First of all, Emilia vs. Volcanica. What a fucking fight that was. Genuinely, what a fight. It was pure kino. Dynamic, enthralling, had some absolutely insane, even if short sequences that flowed perfectly to the fight at large. Hands down my favourite sequence there was either the moment Volcanica reacted to hearing "The Witch of Envy" or Emilia casting Absolute Zero. Both of them had my eyes wide open in awe. I think overall, when looking at the totality of the fight, if we consider this episode split into three parts, this part was my favourite of the episode. But all three parts are peak. Honestly, there's so much I could gush about this episode, but I want to keep some things a surprise. Now, onto the second main portion: the fight in the desert and Shaula's conclusion. There were some seriously awesome action sequences there too. I also really love how the Giant Scorpion looks when it goes Crimson! And then the scene with Shaula. Her chapter wasn't one of my favourites in the novel, but the more I rewatch the scene in the anime, the more I like how it was done. I think it'll move most people, and they kept her talking with Subaru in the white area. My favourite part had to be Shaula kissing Subaru on the cheek and licking his tears. It felt cheesy in the novels, but actually hit quite hard in the anime. Gorgeous storyboarding too (and honestly, the whole episode, Shinohara cooked on the storyboards). And man. The part that hit the most for me was when the little crimson scorpion came out from the crumbling carapace. It was just so cute scuttling about, into Subaru's hand as an emotional OST plays in the background and Shaula talking about how she even loved waiting for the 400 years she spent. Utter peak. And then, things proceed mostly as in the novels, with talking about Roy being imprisoned in Shamak, Subaru passing out, etc. Then, after Subaru comes to, Rui appears in the Green Room as in the novels. And because of that, the taboo is broken and the Witch of Envy shows up. This is accompanied by an awesome cut of Volcanica blasting her and her shadows away, with an incredible transition to one of Pandora's birds, observing the situation, before flying away. Really, really eerie. And finally. What will likely be the piece de resistance for nearly everyone this Wednesday. The final scene. Subaru awakens in a mysterious clearing surrounded by jungle. And there, we get the end of Arc Six: Rem awakening. The adaptation basically runs to the very end of Arc Six, adapting to the final line, with Subaru telling Rem he's her hero, and that he missed her. To quote none other than Alex DeLarge, this scene was gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh. It's just so fucking good. So fucking good. I am not going to spoil anything about it, in regards to the choices taken with the storyboarding and direction. But it's utter, sheer gorgeosity made flesh. Also I won't spoil anything about what happens after with what may be played/scrolled (though, no, before you ask, nothing in Arc 7 is adapted). Extended length episode. About 41 minutes in length. Has opening. Wait and see regarding the ending! ■■■■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■. Rating: 9.5/10

Re: Zero Season 4, Episode 14 - Spoiler Warning After the highs of Stand Up, we have a bit more of a grounded episode, in my opinion. The content is basically as is in the novels. After returning from the Hall of Memories, Subaru and the others go to the balcony where Shaula is defending against the Witchbeast stampede. And then, after leaving her and Meili to it, Subaru and his group run into Lye Batenkaitos fighting Emilia, who has now had her name eaten. We saw bits and pieces of this action scene in the PV. This is then followed by Reid showing up, and beating the hell out of Lye, before then proceeding to fight the others. The action is fairly decent. Then, eventually, the Giant Scorpion shows up, making a real mess out of Subaru's leg. Before the loop finally ends with Satella showing up. After Subaru returns by death, they get to Emilia earlier, before her name was eaten, as in the novels. Fighting against Lye. This leads to one of my favourite moments of the episode, where Lye delivers (or tries to deliver) his "From Zero" moment. The direction was excellent here. I also really love how Subaru's Cor Leonis is portrayed. Eventually, Lye's death to the Giant Scorpion is done in a similar style to the Centaur death in Episode 3. Really brutal gore showing the aftermath. Really good stuff. The episode ends on Julius and Reid crashing in, with the former informing them that Reid = Roy Alphard. Has opening. No ending visuals - the ending plays as the Julius and Reid scene plays out. Not an extended length episode. Title: "The Five Obstacles" The title card is the ugliest Re: Zero title card I've ever seen. 🗿

Re: Zero Season 4, Episode 13 - Spoiler Warning Oh boy, here we go. Now we truly start Cour 2. There's not much to say about the first part of the episode, it's relatively normal. They go to the library to look for Reid's book, with the "That is that, this is this" conversation kept on the way. After finding Reid's book, Subaru decides to read the book and is brought to the Hall of Memories. I really liked the transitions here, like a circuit, and some really cool angles after Rui introduces the place! The lighting and composition of the Hall looks essentially as cool as it does in the PV. The direction gradually ramps up as Rui gets under Subaru's skin. We also get an intermission about halfway into the episode, showing Shaula and the others POV as the obstacles begin to manifest inside/around the tower. After that, the direction continues to ramp up, emphasising Rui's manipulativeness as she goads him to kill "Natsuki Subaru", causing him to break down. This was done excellently. AND HERE WE GO. STAND UP. AND WE SEE REM! With a gorgeous soundtrack playing as she firmly tells Subaru to Stand Up! The facial expressions and close-ups are my highlight here. Simply gorgeous. And wow, the scene where Subaru is awakened to Cor Leonis. SPLENDID, with a constellation in the background too! Beautiful visuals, and my favourite part of the episode, easily. And after that we have Subaru stand up to Rui, also done extremely well, telling her at the end that "that is that, this is this" before he leaves, realising her brothers are in the tower. After Subaru leaves, pledging to meet Rem again, we get a bit of "Rui Arneb" (Volume 25, Chapter 3, Section 1) interspersed into this episode, in what is Chapter 3, Section 7 (in Volume 24). i.e. when Rui starts malding and breaking down. It shows some flashes of the moment Rui discarded Rem's memories (depicted as a small blue orb), as she's about to eat Natsuki Subaru. Including where she splits into two. This was really cool, albeit quite brief. No opening. No ending. The episode is extended. Approximately 29 minutes. Title: Stand Up

Tappei felt a tremendous sense of loss after he wrote the ending of Arc 8. He had been preparing to do it as he got closer, since he had decided this would happen over a decade ago. But, the closer he got to it, the more difficult it became and the more depressed he got. But he felt like he could not do a half hearted job with it, so he really racked his mind over it, troubling himself to get it done in a way that would feel fine. Rather than feeling accomplished, at the end of Arc 8, he felt like he had lost a piece of his soul. On the other hand, with Arc 9, he felt more excited that he was finally able to reveal something he had been hiding for so long. Which was also decided on a decade prior.

The flashback cuts to Shaula with her Mommy. With her remembering how her Mommy had told her there's branches of the Saintess Faction all over the world. The one she's speaking to right now, though not named yet, is Echidna. She talks about that faction in quite the disparaging tone, though offers some sympathies to their plight, also says they turned a blind eye to everything except their own beliefs. AND ITS HERE THAT SHAULA CALLS HER "MOMMY", SAYING SHES SPEAKING FAST. SO SHAULA'S MOMMY IS NOT DAPHNE? IT'S ECHIDNA??? WHAT???
