Soooo I think this is an unpopular opinion in the fandom I am in. But I actually like Unbreak My Heart. It has old Filipino melodrama elements that we used to watch in those glossy films from the 80s-90s --- ala Guillen's "Init sa Magdamag" or Brocka's "Maging Akin Ka Lamang" which portrays love as dangerous and all-consuming. It has elements of old Kdramas too ala Winter Sonata and Innocent Man. Jodi Sta Maria carries the soap opera effortlessly and sells the hell out of her Rose role. and she actually has chemistry with Joshua Garcia. He is good in his role as Renz especially in his more comedic and subdued parts (take note subdued) .... and eons better than his last performance. The script that plays around with fate though nothing original, is still woven neatly. The technical aspects are also top-notch and the story engaging enough. If you take for what it is... which is a dynamic melodrama-- something the PH is known for, this actually seems like a good collaboration. I am tuning in. Jury's still out.
