So the final Relearn under this #Unlearn to #Relearn series on profiling an ##investor as #aggressive or #conservative: 6. #Relearn: “Don't just profile the investor. Profile the market.” Maybe the conversation in our industry needs to evolve from: “What kind of investor are you?” to: “What kind of market are we in?” And then: “Given this market, what is appropriate for you?” That could create a very different relationship between #investors and #MFDs. Less product-driven. Less label-driven. More valuation-driven. More cycle-aware. And perhaps, ultimately, a happier place for both the investor and the MFD.

5. #Unlearn: “Risk profiling is the destination.” Risk profiling is important. But perhaps it should be the guardrail, not the destination. An investor's goals, time horizon, liquidity needs and ability to take risk will always matter. But within those boundaries, shouldn't we also ask: Where are the opportunities today? Because an aggressive investor doesn't necessarily need an aggressive portfolio at every point in time. And a conservative investor doesn't necessarily need to avoid every opportunity.

4. #Unlearn: “Market falls prove the recommendation was wrong.” Here is the uncomfortable part. When markets are rising, an #aggressive investor is happy with an aggressive portfolio. When markets fall sharply, the same investor can suddenly become #conservative. And the #MFD who did the due diligence, explained the risks and recommended the investment is often the one who gets blamed. #Relearn: Perhaps the real objective should not be to find the investor's permanent risk label. It should be to find the right level of risk at the right point in the market cycle, within the investor's suitability constraints. .

3. #Unlearn: “The investor profile should drive the recommendation.” The traditional process is: Profile the investor → identify risk appetite → recommend asset classes → select schemes. Perhaps the sequence needs to be flipped. #Relearn: Start with the market. Are equities #cheap or #expensive? Are small caps attractively valued or excessively priced? Is a sector offering opportunity or simply riding a narrative? Is debt offering an attractive risk-adjusted return? Then ask: Given this opportunity, what is appropriate for this particular #investor?
