Thank you everyone for getting up so early and contributing your inspirational thoughts and perspectives to our Twitter Chat #USFMedTechZ on the Digital Divide and Tech Skills Gap. Hope you have a great weekend!
A9: I think the dissonance btwn how tech is used in the homes, school, and the bigger picture of tech use, causes the skills gap. Ps don't always know how to encourage the best of the tech, Ts are still struggling to balance what needs to get done and best tech use. #USFMEdTechZ
A9 Opportunity! The opportunity for Ss to use and try tech! If Ss don't have opportunity/access to try it how can they work on those skills? #USFMEdTechZ
Q9 What do you think contributes to the Tech Skills Gap? #USFMedTechZ
Q9: As in most things in life, it is your belief about how you can use technology. If you feel you are bad at it, then you won't seek opportunities to learn it and your gap will grow. #USFMEdTechZ
A8: Digital citizenship- How to use technology responsibly. #USFMedTechz
A8 Ss need to learn how to work together respectively! This is not an easy skill to learn! #USFMEdTechZ
Q8 What other skills are important to teach students that leverage technology? Collaborative skills? #USFMedTechZ
A8: Yes, collaborative skills. But also perseverance/ grit when things are difficult. We can teach time management. Also, living in a digital world, where you work from electronic to-do lists, use credit/debit cards more than cash, are connected 24/7. #USFMEdTechZ
A8: I think the ISTE Student standards https://t.co/wRXIeUPRSq are the skills. They encompass the life skills needed when using tech to be a well rounded and active participant in their learning while being safe. #USFMEdTechZ
A7: YES!! This relates to exactly what I mentioned in my previous response. In general these are the skills students need to have with and without technology! Makes my heart happy! #USFMEdTechZ
@Karen__Harkin A7: No. I believe it is IMPERATIVE that they learn creative problem-solving skills. This is what companies are looking for and what students need to develop more than anything. #USFMedTechZ
Q7: Problem solving skills are important no matter what you do in life. I think teachers need more PD in how to facilitate these experiences as well as rich problems to present our students that align with our curriculum. #USFMEdTechZ
A7 YES! This is why i love the maker movement in the library! Ss need the opportunity improve their problem solving skills in a safe environment! #USFMEdTechZ
Q7 Do you agree with Adobe’s Global Study https://t.co/Oa0ndY9lsA that indicates it is IMPORTANT for students to learn creative problem-solving skills? #USFMedTechZ
@MelissaMGraves1 We need to use ISTE standards more. I think that there is not enough discussion on this subject. #USFMedTechZ
A6: I think that while teachers are learning to implement technology in the classroom, most are still using it as a substitute for instruction. Teachers need more training on how to implement instruction on SAMR model to better prepare students. #USFMedTechZ
@Karen__Harkin I don't think the digital divide will be eliminated. Technology is advancing at a feverish pace and some students will always have access to new tools while others read about them. It's a matter of funding. #USFMedTechz
A6: It is hard because different workplaces involve different technology. But if we can agree on the basics and students understand basic concepts like the cloud vs. local or attaching a file, hopefully their specific career can train more. #USFMEdTechZ
@Karen__Harkin A6: I believe we are providing students with a good start. However, it seems that there is another step that could be taken to get students working with more real world applications in an effort to better prepare them. #USFMedTechZ
Q5: It needs to be a priority in order to eliminate it, but unfortunately I don't think it is enough of one. Saying everyone has access is an easy fix and sounds like it is done, but people don't seem to want to invest beyond that because it doesn't sound as pretty. #USFMEdTechZ
A5: Yes but when the government gets involved to offer the technology resources to families right from the beginning! #USFMEdTechZ
Q5 Do you think it is possible to eliminate the digital divide? #USFMedTechZ
