The governments of ESM Members, accountable to their national parliaments, are key in controlling ESM. They may challenge ESM decisions, and any disputes can be brought to the ECJ for final decision. The ESM also has a Board of Auditors to verify its accounts. #UnderstandingESM
No. ESM lends money to countries that have sustainable debt to ensure its loans are paid back. The assessment is done together with the European Commission and the help of other European institutions. There is no automaticity nor a one-size-fits-all approach. #UnderstandingESM
No. The ESM will lend money to the SRF if the fund’s own resources are depleted, while resolving a bank. The SRF is itself funded by contributions from the banks. So, the money the SRF pays back comes directly from the banks. No taxpayer money involved. #UnderstandingESM
