Reports from Japan are raising serious concerns about religious freedom. Some members of the Family Federation claim they were confined or pressured to abandon their beliefs — with allegations involving individuals linked to the United Church of Christ in Japan. These claims remain highly controversial and are still debated within Japanese society. But if even a fraction of this is true, it points to a troubling question: How can such allegations exist in a G7 country that upholds human rights? Religious freedom is a fundamental right — and any claims of coercion deserve transparency, scrutiny, and open discussion. The world should not ignore this. #ReligiousFreedom #Japan #HumanRights #FreedomOfBelief #G7 #Awareness

A diagram related to Japan’s “deprogramming” (deconversion support) practices has recently circulated online, prompting renewed discussion about religious freedom and intervention. The discussion touches on criticism of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, as well as allegations that certain actors involved in anti-cult advocacy may also have connections to deconversion support activities. Some claims further suggest that individuals associated with United Church of Christ in Japan have played roles in these efforts, and that thousands of people may have been affected. However, these points remain contested, and the extent and nature of such involvement are subject to ongoing debate. In Japan, the issue of deprogramming has long been controversial. It raises complex legal and ethical questions, including: • The scope of freedom of religion • The role of families in intervening in religious affiliation • The legality and ethics of coercive or non-consensual “deconversion” practices Court cases, advocacy efforts, and media coverage over the years have reflected differing interpretations of these issues. Given the complexity of the topic, it is important to approach such claims with careful attention to sources and context, and to consider multiple perspectives before drawing conclusions. #Japan #ReligiousFreedom #HumanRights #Deprogramming #Religion
