Solar boxes are starting to come online. I love it when ppl slap it together to pump hash like I originally did. They don’t know it yet but we’re goinna be hashing well after the halving pushing their corporate mines profitability closer to zero than they think! #unitedwestack
First test run with decent sunshine complete! The trees in my test location only give a short window of full sun, and my panel angle is still bad, but I'm really happy with the results so far. 3 full hours of 100% free hash, $0.00/kWh :)
Efficiency for the J-Pro 96T was approximately 26 J/TH, but I think this will actually improve with more power, as measured by the battery monitor shunt (much more accurate than the firmware guesstimate).
Given I got 1 hour runtime on batteries alone at night (120A @ 12v, 1.4 kWh), I estimate the panels produced roughly 3 kWh today at least. When the panel production supports it the box will automatically increase hashrate to burn off any excess. Get more hashes that way vs. charging and discharging a larger bank of batteries.
Planning to leave the batteries discharged overnight to compare how much runtime I get tomorrow without the benefit of full batteries. Predicting ~2 hours if clouds are clear.

1. I run a Bitaxe solo on my own node. It'll probably never find a block, but ya never know.
2. I run an S17 heater in an "outdoor " space. Earns less in sats than the power costs, but I like the heat and just keep the sats.
3. (Grey area) I'm building a solar system to power an S19 with help from @100AcresRanch . While my power costs will be free for 15-20 years, setting up the system has cost a lot of sats, and it's borderline whether it will earn those back. ROI in dollar terms is easy, but in Bitcoin terms over 5 halvings tough to say.
Chances are good, but depend on weather and transaction fees for 2 decades. I did it because I want to learn, and because I want to be able to produce hash even if fees stay low AND hashprice stays low, for ideological reasons (I'm defending the integrity of the network and thus the value of my savings).
I also run miners for profit, but that's shorter term stuff. The above is my long term thinking/planning/learning.
I believe that profit mining=paid mercenaries, while ideological mining=religious jihad's. The former is MUCH more susceptible to bribes/coercion from an adversarial state.
