Preliminary investigations indicate that two spans of copper conductor were stolen, resulting in the interruption of electricity supply to these areas.
Copper theft not only disrupts electricity supply to communities and businesses but also poses a serious safety risk to members of the public and Eskom employees. These criminal acts damage critical infrastructure and negatively impact service delivery.
Acting General Manager for the Cape Coastal Cluster, Promise Ntuli, said: “Copper theft remains a scourge that continues to undermine service delivery, damage critical infrastructure and place lives at risk. These criminal acts have far-reaching consequences for our customers, local communities and the economy. We call on all residents to work with us by reporting suspicious activities so that together we can protect essential electricity infrastructure and ensure a reliable power supply for all.”
Our technical teams are currently on site and are working to restore supply to feeders that have not been affected by the vandalism. In parallel, investigations are underway to determine the operating sequence of the network protection system and to assess the full extent of the damage.
At this stage, an estimated restoration time (ETR) is not yet available. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Eskom apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of affected customers while our teams work to restore electricity supply safely and as quickly as possible.

#Bloekombos and #Wallacedene
Date: Tuesday, 18 February 2025
Eskom sincerely apologises for the ongoing power outage affecting Bloekombos and a portion of Wallacedene. The delay in restoring supply is due to informal structures that have been built under the Eskom infrastructure, which creates serious safety hazards and makes maintenance extremely challenging.
We understand the frustration this causes and appreciate your patience. However, we must emphasise that building under Eskom infrastructure is illegal and poses severe risks to lives and power stability.
Our teams have managed to remove one informal structure and are working hard to find a solution. Eskom will provide updates as soon as possible. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time available for when supply will be restored. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
