The Truth about America’s Bribeocracy: Everyone Chooses a Side In a society that gives expansive powers to officials, voting turns into a choice between those candidates who believe in limited government principles vs. those who take and give bribes to stay in power. When the American public loves a bribe (or when the public does not even know what a bribe is) the situation will soon deteriorate. How could it be otherwise? The problem is the assumption that expansive powers are even proper—and that it is even possible to give the state expansive powers while avoiding corruption. The solution is to legally place strict limits on the scope of actions the government can take and to teach the voters the reason this is needed. The Constitution has already done all this, if people would read it and observe its meaning. American politicians who violate these principles should face severe legal threats, including deportation or loss of property. We are far from such a situation today. But America’s basic problem is not structural. Her problem is that her people are foolish and immoral. It is not a fault in the Constitution. It is fundamentally a fault in the voters who know nothing about morality. And it is especially a fault in the institutional leaders who educate those voters, especially the teachers and the public intellectuals. The solution is to work to fill the world with moral clarity. -Fight back against the deception that says a bribeocracy is the best we can achieve. -Fight back against your society’s ignorance, moral passivity, and cowardice. -Fight back against the silence. You do that by speaking out. Say what must be said. Make sure people know what you mean. Tell people that they will need to make a choice: Do you believe in a limited government? Or do you believe in bribery and corruption? Those are the choices. One way or another, by what we say and how we vote, or by our silence and complicity, everyone chooses a side.
