Can someone explain how #Vatstheproblem will help wet led pubs and not just result in a state sponsored 10% price increase?
Amazing to see.

Monday's launch of the next phase of #VATsTheProblem campaign with Chef Tom Kerridge reinforced the importance of tackling one of the biggest challenges facing our industry.
With operators, suppliers, venues and industry leaders from across the UK coming together, one message stood above the rest: the current VAT burden is holding businesses back. From pubs, bars and restaurants to clubs, live music venues, festivals, hotels and event spaces, a reduction in hospitality VAT from 20% to 10% would give businesses the breathing room to protect jobs, invest in their teams and venues, and keep the places that bring our towns and cities to life open for the future.
The NTIA is proud to support the campaign and stands alongside businesses across the sector in calling for meaningful action. Now is the time to make your voice heard.

I see the @DailyMail is again showing another article about @ChefTomKerridge & #VatsTheProblem
What on earth has a consumer tax got to do with it, if you slash #vat the prices should be lower for the consumer.
However, that is not what #Hospitality is going to do, they are going to maintain the prices, and use the difference for margin support.
Take a meal at £100 + VAT (20%) £20 = £120
If VAT on hospitality was cut from 20% to 10%, but the bill stayed at £120, the hospitality business would receive a 9.09% price uplift with no saving passed to the customer.
The Treasury loses £9.09 on that bill. That money does not vanish. It either means less public spending, more borrowing, or tax being raised elsewhere.
So the wider population ends up subsidising a tax cut that may simply improve margins for businesses serving people who can already afford to eat out.
That is the fairness question.
If the VAT cut is not passed on to customers, why should everyone else pay for it?
