as a core member of Halwe n Monje,i deeply condemn its ban outside the ongoing #Veericonference . it is not juat afood, it is a cultural memory,a language of belonging,a symbol of emotions, bonds, baichara and generations of shared life, thousands of livelihoods are connected to it,but beyond livelihood lies something even deeper,we have grown up with halwe monje woven into our picnics, functions, niyaz nd everyday celebrations.our children have waited for their parents to return from outside, not for gifts or luxuries, but for that familiar taste that carried a piece of home with it.we have such an obsession with it that even if you set up a small cart selling halwe and monje somewhere in Americans Los Angeles, you would feel as you have been transported to the streets of Dargah Sharif or markets of Charari Sharief, that is what cultural memory does, it follows you across borders, you can change the city, the language, the architecture and even the continent it will follow u. to erase it from a public space because it is deeply connected with one particular community is not cultural discipline; it reflects your uncomfortable relationship with identity itself. you cannot wage a war against a tradition just because one community has made it their own.. the chairman of monje, "man monje" from pulwama, also condemns this behaviour. conference will end, banners will come down, what remains is what people carry home in their hands, halwe monje is one such memory, simple nd deeply ours. so if halwe and monje is powerful enough to disturb the atmosphere of a grand conFreNce, you should stop blaming it and start wondering why the atmosphere was so fragile in the first place.
