An amphibrach + bacchius at hexameter’s verse end is pretty rare in #Ovid and Rouse (1899 p.68) says it’s ‘ugly and tripping’. Presumably that’s due to the stress accents. Anyone care to shed more light, please?

After some concerted study of Rouse’s Part 1 (thanks @AntigoneJournal) and the English targets and translations in ‘Musa Clauda’ I’ve finally realised that #paraphrase is not a black art! It is simply taking the English and casting it as Ovid might have done.
Okay, I’ve had a bit of an epiphany regarding #paraphrase in the process of #Latin #VerseComp #elegiacs
Don’t necessarily aim for a really ‘tight’ translation but give yourself some room to include some of rhetorical tropes such as repetition, antithesis etc.
Space is needed.

Notes to self
1 If you don’t have a disyllable at the end of the pentameter you really must rethink.
2 If you have a monosyllable within touching distance of a main caesura tread *very* carefully.
