Day 2 of the @theviveevent is well underway, and I'm missing it, big time! Throwback to when our cartoon mini-me's ruled #ViVEevent.
I just had to take mine to the beach for some rest, and relaxation. Don't you just love her beach hat? I think she rocked it! 😂

Day 2 of #ViVEevent 2025 had even spicier takes 🌶️🌶️🌶️. The 13 most interesting ideas I heard:
1️⃣ I don’t want to hear about needing “humans in the loop” for Healthcare AI solutions. Where will clinicians find the time to validate the output and be responsible for it?
- Michael Pfeffer, Stanford
2️⃣ Your clinicians don’t care to hear about some new AI product if the WiFi at the hospital doesn’t work. So we have to get the basics, the foundational stuff right before the shiny new stuff matters. The downside is the basics ar eunsexy. If you tell the health system Board “we are going to make WiFI better” they will ask “but what’s your AI strategy?”. So there’s a constant balance of getting the basics right AND doing some of the new things each year. But just like at home, if we stop sweeping the floor, we’ll get in trouble.
- Saad Chaudry - SSM
3️⃣ The barrier to adoption of wearables isn’t the Tech - the Tech is already here. The hard part is getting patients and clinicians to change their behaviour. It’s hard to convince patients to keep using their blood pressure cuff regularly. And why would a clinician suddenly shift from managing the patient in front of them to caring how many steps you took at home the past several months? We need to learn from what gets people to watch cat videos on Youtube and apply that to changing behaviour in healthcare.
- Sarah Pletcher - Houston Methodist
4️⃣ Right now there's so much AI noise with, so many applications and new financial costs - it takes meaningful effort to figure out the real ROI.
- David Chestek - University of Illinois Health
5️⃣ AI prediction models are only as useful as the problems they solve. Let’s say we can perfectly predict which patients need a physiotherapist (PT) in the hospital but we don’t have enough PTs on staff - in that case, the prediction doesn’t solve anything for us.
- Michael Pfeffer - Stanford
6️⃣ Getting the basics right REALLY matters. There is no path to broad use of AI without good data management and security at the foundation. We can only build the cool things at the application layer on top if the infrastructure is strong.
- Anika Gardenhire - Ardent Health
7️⃣ In order to do AI well, you healthcare leaders HAVE to be genuinely curious about how the latest AI tech actually works. You can’t just read the headlines, you better be reading the underlying scientific articles too.
Bradley Crotty, Froedtert
8️⃣ In the auto industry, new car companies will replace old ones, and the industry will be transformed. But in Healthcare, no new company is coming to save us. Health systems - we have to reinvent ourselves.
- Matthew Kull - Inova
9️⃣ It’s easy to say we’ll just do a rapid pilot, and then fail fast or scale. But the reality is that there are parts of healthcare where you can’t fail fast. You can’t fail fast building a hospital, can you? So you need to know when you must spend the brain calories upfront. Sometimes you’ll spend the brain calories to find out it’s not even worth doing a pilot because there’s no way this Health Tech would scale.
- Saad Chaudry - SSM
🔟 In Health Tech we need to give ourselves more of a license to have some things succeed and some things fail - and be OK with that. That change in mindset is critical for us to get progress faster.
- Rohit Chandra - Cleveland Clinic
1️⃣1️⃣ Dear Digital and IT leaders: When mobilizing your teams, telling a story creates a visual picture - which is FAR more compelling than any spreadsheet or KPIs.
- Donna Roach - University of Utah Healthcare
1️⃣2️⃣ It’s 2025 and there are still no clinical trials of AI systems showing major improvements with patient outcomes as primary endpoints. Why is that?
- Alex Morgan - Khosla Ventures
1️⃣3️⃣ Traditional analytics - a dashboard of retrospective data - will be GONE in several years. Instead of running a rules-based report, we will use AI to interpret new data sets in real-time to produce more meaningful analytics.
- Michael Pfeffer, Stanford

What were your favourite ideas from Day 2 of @theviveevent 2025?

#ViveEvent in Nashville; we can’t stop and won’t stop working on solutions for nurses… but I don’t think #Florence would have been mad at a little throw down 🔥. Great speakers and fantastic innovation. Excited to see how we keep raising the bar in this space. Also massive gratitude to @JohnNosta for his content and the many ways it inspires me to dream up the plans to change care interactions in healthcare for the better. Let’s go #TeamMeru

Getting ready to kick off #ViVEevent with @NACHC presenting on how Community Health Centers Leverage Technology #valuechcs

At #ViVEEvent: here's my report on @medikalife as the meeting kicks off. More than 8,000 health leaders—some 25% from the health sector's C-Suite—have descended upon the nation's Music Hub in Nashville for ViVE to discuss #digitalhealth transformation and health provider trends.
But scratch "music" and replace that with "HEALTH." The health industry contributes nearly $68 billion annually to the local economy, reflecting its significance as a primary economic driver. It is also the largest regional employer, creating some 330,000 jobs.
But #DOGE aims to slash billions from the nation's medical research budget, impacting science, jobs, and lives. @theviveevent comes at the right time and to the right place.
