Super disappointing they messed up what should have been an ideal Fathers Day weekend. In life mistakes happen …we all make them. It’s what you do next that counts. #ViaGOGO made a series of mistakes. Now what will they do to sort out this mess. Luckily #TeamMessi is still in the hunt. We paid for one trip. Nothing less than a free trip for my son and his family with tickets to a #argentina game would be the way to at least get it toward right.
The worst case scenario happened. My family flew 2,490 miles to witness @TeamMessi make World Cup history in Dallas. But thanks to @viagogo we weren't in our seats to see it - we were outside ATT stadium roasting on the sidewalk in 100 degree heat. Entry denied.
Messi scored his record breaking goal.
My sons missed it.
My oldest listened to a radio broadcast on my wife's phone - 150 meters from it happening live. My 5 year old was bawling his eyes out inconsolable because we couldn't explain why we weren't allowed in. Even now, the next day, I still dont have a good explanation for what happened from Viagogo.
Here's what I do know:
We bought our tickets on April 12th. We spent thousands on flights and hotels, anticipating the dream trip of my kids young lives.
We had issues for months getting the tickets unlocked and had repeat interactions (15 calls total) with ViaGoGo customer support. Each time they assured us everything was fine. Each time they failed to solve the problem.
We stayed up most of the night before the game, on Father's day weekend trying to solve it. My wife cried her eyes out - knowing how heartbroken our boys would be if we couldn't figure this out.
We were told it would get solved - a lie.
We were told there was a ViaGoGo rep at the stadium who could help us - a lie.
At 9am - 3 hours before the game - someone at customer support said our issue would be escalated in 24 hours... "don't worry if it doesn't work you'll get a full refund."
We explained how far we'd come, how much we'd spent to make this happen for the boys. They didnt care. Then while we were standing in the ticket resolution line at ATT - they refunded our tickets without our permission.
I was literally begging their Twitter rep to help us as the minutes ticked down.
But it was too late...
When that nightmare outcome became real - my kids were shattered.
Total waterworks.
This was a dream for them.
I cant tell you how big seeing Messi make history would have been for my oldest. His last three birthdays were Messi themed (my wife baked and designed Messi themed #10 cakes). Half his shirts are Messi jerseys. It meant the world to him.
I've since read that ViaGogo has issues with fake / counterfeit tickets. Ive also read that the systems for this year's World Cup have been overwhelmed.
I dont know WHY this happened to us.
Viagogo won't say. Maybe they dont care.
But what should have been a lifelong memory for my sons was ruined. Its a disappointment that cant be taken back. Can't be "fixed." And its not an acceptable outcome.
Since my original post, Ive had a rep from Viagogo reach out about making this right. We will see how that goes, and I will update here when I know.
For now I want to thank everyone who shared and replied to my post - the outpouring of love and concern for my family was heartwarming. It took an awful day and made it a bit better.
That's what the World Cup is all about, isnt it? People from around the world uniting around their shared love of this sport. Thanks to you we still felt that yesterday. It means a lot.

La plataforma de reventa Viagogo comercializa accesos a secciones de la Guelaguetza 2026 que el gobierno de Oaxaca declaró completamente gratuitas, al tiempo que ofrece boletos de pago a precios que superan hasta en 1057 por ciento el costo oficial fijado por la Secretaría de Turismo estatal.
La secretaria de Turismo, Saymi Pineda Velasco, informó que este lunes arrancó la venta de boletos a través de https://t.co/jYRdBKheBS a partir de las 10:00 horas.
Los palcos A y B tienen un costo de mil 632 y mil 321 pesos respectivamente, más gastos por servicio.
Los palcos C y D, en cambio, son de acceso totalmente gratuito para garantizar que la ciudadanía pueda asistir sin ningún costo.
Pese a ello, Viagogo lista en su plataforma boletos para secciones identificadas como Galería C y Galería D —que corresponden a los palcos gratuitos— a precios de 29 mil 823 pesos por par, es decir, casi 15 mil pesos por un acceso que no tiene ningún valor de mercado porque el gobierno lo entrega sin costo.
La plataforma no posee esos boletos: los mercados de reventa operan captando entradas que revendedores obtienen para luego especular con ellas, incluyendo las gratuitas.
Para las secciones de pago, el sobreprecio es igualmente escandaloso. En la función del lunes 27 de julio, los boletos de Luneta A, C y D se ofrecen a 37 mil 760 pesos el par, lo que equivale a 18 mil 880 pesos por boleto: mil 57 por ciento más que el precio oficial del palco A.
El Lower Box aparece en 35 mil 776 pesos por par.
En la función del lunes 20 de julio, denominada "Tierra orgullosa de sus raíces", la sección Left Boxes-B se oferta en 26 mil 846 pesos el par —13 mil 423 por boleto—, un sobreprecio de 916 por ciento sobre el precio oficial del palco B.
La sección Left Boxes-A llega a 30 mil 929 pesos, y la Right Boxes-A a 31 mil 807 pesos.
Ambas funciones muestran alertas de escasez fabricada: Viagogo advierte que solo queda entre el uno y el cuatro por ciento de las entradas, un recurso habitual de estas plataformas para presionar la compra inmediata.
La Secretaría de Turismo había anunciado el límite de dos boletos por tarjeta bancaria precisamente para evitar la acaparación y la reventa.
La aparición de los accesos gratuitos en Viagogo evidencia que la celebración cultural más emblemática de Oaxaca quedó expuesta, desde el primer día de venta, a la especulación de plataformas que operan al margen de cualquier regulación en el país.
