Since the establishment of the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations, including those arising from demonstrations and public protests, significant progress has been made in restoring justice.
#VictimsCompensation has so far seen 505 verified victims compensated with a cumulative disbursement of Ksh 674.1 million, representing 56% of all claims received and processed.
The compensation programme has been implemented in phases to ensure timely and accountable payments. The initial phase compensated 348 verified claimants with Ksh 448.7 million, while the second phase has seen 157 verified victims receive Ksh 225.4 million, reaffirming the Panel's commitment to delivering fair, transparent and dignified reparations to every eligible victim.
