#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 16 - don't be afraid to repeat details in a narrative - just as poets and songwriters repeat words and phrases for artistic impact, #writers of #narrative can achieve similar effects through repetition #craftofwriting #writingtechniques

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 15 - don't overdo character description - don't derail the energy of a scene by going into detailed descriptons of the characters - one or two key details are enough - you can add to the details later as needed #writingcraft

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 13 - send out excerpts of works in progress - don't be overly concerned if excerpts "stand alone" - let editors be the judge of that - acceptances of excerpts can be the encouragement you need to reach the end of a big project #writingcommunity

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 12 - research markets but don't sell your work short - let editors decide if your piece is appropriate to their needs - don't decline to send your work because it *may* not be quite right - something a bit different may stand out in the crowd of subs

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 11 - as a creative writer, it's important to know the rules - but don't be afraid to play around with breaking the rules - keep in mind the old adage: the only rule in creative writing is that there are no rules

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 6 - It's important to master the short form - the story, the single poem, essay, etc. - before tackling long-form work and whole collections. Fundamentals matter

#Vidbit #Writing Tip No. 4 - William Gass's advice for new writers was "learn to take advice" - trust your artistic instincts & don't water down your work by listening too keenly to others' opinions
