This is not normal. This can't be the normal we're made to accept. There are known practices to prevent crashes that leave people seriously injured/dead.
We must hold those in charge of deciding how we live & die on our streets accountable for these tragedies.

TRAFFIC: #DPD officers are investigating a crash involving a motorist and a pedestrian in the area of 15th/Market. 1 person has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Expect delays in the area. Alternate routes advised.

So many of our Denver intersections along @ColoradoDOT’s Federal (& other stroads) are designed like this, w/@DenverDOTI’s blessing.
It’ll never make sense to me why we allow them to be deadly/dangerous by design.

Here, left turning drivers are under incredible pressure to take advantage of infrequent gaps across 2 oncoming lanes. When they get a gap, they’re turning fast. They’re just not thinking about or looking for pedestrians - who HAVE A WALK SIGNAL. It’s criminally unsafe. Fuck this

Our main transportation/mobility infra providers posting & re-posting this silly message putting the onus on pedestrians (🚸👩🏿🦽🚶🏽♀️🚶🏼♂️) is so 2023.
Have we learned nothing from tireless, volunteer advocates/activists, @RideRTD & @DenverDOTI?
#VisionZeroDEN

@DenverPolice We don't have to live this, be injured this way or die this way. We could choose to invest & prioritize our collective health & well-being over the speed & convenience of drivers. #VisionZeroDEN
Traffic lights (including RRFBs & school zone blinking lights) & 🛑 signs are not traffic calming infrastructure.
Pass it on.

I'll be there too. I hope you can join us.

@DenverPolice 😔We don't have to live this way. We could make design changes based on international best practices to Speer & Downing to slow down motor-vehicle traffic & offer safer streets to all, even if people make mistakes, are distracted, "come out of nowhere." @DenverDOTI #VisionZeroDEN
Just in time for tonight's @Vibrant_Denver public forum on transportation & infrastructure.
Maybe @MikeJohnstonCO can use these stories to guide his administration's commitment to zero traffic deaths in our city.
Thank you, @nbminor, for writing this piece.

@jlocantore always says it best.
We'll get there, but only if we commit ourselves to urgently centering our collective health & well-being.

#PedestrianDignity advocates Phyllis & @biculturalbrokr showed🆙to support @BikeWalkBus @molly_mckinley in calling upon elected officials "to raise the scale of funding needed" to end traffic violence.
We'll continue to hold Ainslie's family in our💜+ actions.

Denver transportation advocates are holding a press conference at a dangerous intersection on Federal Blvd to call on the city to do more to achieve its “Vision Zero” goal of eliminating traffic deaths by 2030.

If you've been advocating for #VisionZeroDEN for a while, you've probably frequently heard "But it's managed by @ColoradoDOT" from local officials re: dangerous conditions on Federal, Sheridan or Colfax.
Could we pursue & obtain "relinquishment of a segment" of these roads?

Did you know more than half of fatal crashes in urban areas in the U.S. occur on state owned roads? Despite this, local leaders have little authority to make needed safety changes. Read our new post on how to integrate all roads in your #VisionZero work: https://t.co/gkgJi6VPwc

Going to @denverlibrary Athmar Park branch for a @DenverDOTI #VisionZeroDEN open house. Improvements on Mississippi (at Federal) can’t come soon enough.

“What a lot of them have in common is that they’re trying to be two fundamentally incompatible things at the same time. They’re trying to be main streets… and they’re also trying to be highways…We need to pick a side.”

#ICYMI: Denver’s getting money to study nine dangerous roadways as it tries to achieve Vision Zero’s goals.
Catch a few quotes from our executive director, @jlocantore, emphasizing the need for this funding to make our roads more public transit friendly.

Hi @DenverDOTI @davidpulsipher @sandovalcd1 @MayorHancock, is this response to a lack of crosswalks on W38th Ave ("historically" part of high-injury network) consistent with our #VisionZeroDEN goals? Thank you.

Our already underfunded #VisionZeroDEN & #SRTS programs are hardly able to keep up with the need for infrastructure to protect the safety & well-being of all street users. @DenCityCouncil @sandovalcd1 @KniechAtLarge @OrtegaAtLarge, please support this budget amendment. Thank you.
🚨 Vision Zero Funding Alert 🚨
Click on link below to email your Councilperson ASAP & ask them to support @DenverCouncil5’s amendment to the budget for $2.2 million in additional funding for RRFBs while leaving the other vision zero programs intact.

Brussels knows what it means to curb motor-vehicle traffic. It’s simple. We just need courageous leadership to prioritize health & well-being over speed & convenience.
#VisionZeroDEN
On January 1st, 2021, Brussels introduced a 30 km/h (18 mph) citywide speed limit.
Within one year, overall speeds decreased 9%, collisions 22%, fatalities 50%, and traffic noise up to 50% (depending on the surface).
Journey times by car were identical or even slightly shorter.

Hi @DenverDOTI, this recently installed plastic bollard keeps coming off the ground at a school crossing. Can you please fix for durability? Will file a pocketgov report as well. Thank you. #SafeRoutesToSchool #VisionZeroDEN
